An Audition



The biblical saga of of Joseph and his coat of many colors will come to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles from country-western to bubble gum pop to rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless. Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat promises to delight audiences of all ages.


Aspiring actors and singers are invited to audition. An open call audition will be held in March for the following roles:


(2) Joseph, male, 17-25 years old, tenor, preferably-fit

(3) Narrators, female, soprano

(2) Levi, male, tenor, can sing Country-Western music

(2) Reuben, male, baritone or tenor, can sing with a slight French accent

(2) Napthali, male, baritone or tenor, can sing Calypso music

(2) Baker, male, baritone or tenor, preferably full-bodied

(2) Butler, male, baritone or tenor, preferably slim

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the second British musical theatre show written by the team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Its predecessor, The Likes of Us, was not performed until 2005.

Based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Hebrew Bible's Book of Genesis, this light-hearted show was first presented as a 15-minute pop cantata at Colet Court School in London in 1968. After many transformations and expansions, and West End and Broadway productions, it was adapted as a straight-to-video film, starring Donny Osmond, in 1999.

Joseph is one of the few major British musical theatre shows with hardly any spoken dialogue, being sung-through almost completely. The entire show runs under two hours and is occasionally performed without intermission. Its family-friendly storyline, universal themes, and catchy music have made Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat one of the most dependably profitable titles in musical theatre, particularly when producers cast a headlining star — and, according to the Really Useful Group, more than 20,000 schools and amateur theatre groups have successfully put on productions.
