For you, why should teachers and educators need to be part of the race of integrating ICT in the classroom?

Teachers need to keep up the pace with the 21st century learners. What motivates them and how they learn best should be looked into by the teachers.

Teachers should be aware of the fact that the attention spans of kids nowadays are very short, due to exposure to mass media and gadgets, computers etc. In essence, teachers and educators are vying for the attention of their students. By implementing newer teaching methods that incorporate interactive multimedia presentations, and/or letting their students participate in educations games and simulations using computers, they can match what the kids are exposed to and are interested in nowadays, and thus they would effectively grab their attention better.

I know this for a fact, because back in 1996, when I used to teach Literature and the Humanities I used multimedia presentations, which at the time, was a rare thing, but it effectively drew the attention of the class better, and thus the students' attention was more focused on the subject at hand, rather than elsewhere.

The thing that makes technology educational is that we are in the century that most of the learners are what we call digital learners. We must learn to adapt to the new technologies in order for us to cope up with these learners. We can utilize these technologies in our teaching methods.

i believe we have to be in the race because if we don't prove ourselves better than the technology then we will lose our jobs as teachers. people will opt for technology because they are multi-tasking, entertaining, etc. But if we continue to show our students that technology is better with the teacher using it for the benefit of the students then we win the race. also, the kind of teachers that we are is determined by the kind of students we have. since we have digital learners then i believe it is only logical that we become digital teachers as well.

technology has done a great impact in the lives of every individual who's using it (specially to learners)..what makes it educational is that people of this century were so called digital learners. most of them rely almost everything on technology as their basis for learning. as a future educator, it is therefore very significant to us to apply this as well in our fields to get into the world of our so called digital learners. since most of the learners find it boring nowadays to have the traditional classroom setting, it will be of great help to include technology in our method of teaching to somehow diminish the short span of attention the learners have during discussions.
