I believe this headline would receive mixed reactions, some positive, some negative. for me, it's good news. not only will Cebu be at the forefront as one of the "Super Regions" but also; we will see if the programs of PGMA during her SONA for this part of the country will come into fruition. and there's no better person to implement it than a Cebuano himself, Ace Durano. comments and discussions are welcome.

President names Ace Durano as Super Region chief

President Arroyo appointed Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano to head Central Philippines, one of the government’s economic “super-regions.”

The Central Philippines, which includes Cebu and the rest of the Visayas, will focus on tourism. Aside from three Visayas regions, the super-region includes Bicol, Palawan and Romblon.

Durano was promoted as “Super Region Champion,” the name for the cabinet officer-in-charge for one super region.
He is formerly the Cabinet Officer for the Regional Development (Cord) in Region 7.

Aside from being tourism secretary, Durano will now follow up and facilitate projects included in the National Government’s medium-term public investment program (MPIP) and the projects Arroyo mentioned in her State of the Nation Address last July.

“For example, here in Cebu, we have the south coastal road, the start of the north coastal road and the expansion of the south road from Talisay to Carcar,” said Durano.
