Default Indie/Alternative Bands That Gain Mainstream Popularity

unsa nga mga indie/alternative bands nga nka gain ug mainstream exposures without losing their integrity?
mao ni ako nahibaw-an together with their mainstream hit. mostly these are considered as mainstream one hit wonder but are really doing well under the mainstream radar. feel free to add more.

    1. SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER- Kiss Me
    2. JARS OF CLAY- Flood
    3. I NINE- Seven Days of Lonely
    4. NICKEL CREEK- This Side
    5. JEM- It's Amazing
    6. MY MORNING JACKET- Off The Record
    7. WILCO- Last Cigarette
    8. THE TING TINGS- That's Not My Name (yes they may be very popular among the "masa" as a one-hit wonder but in the indie/alt scene, these guys are huge! anoither myspace hit-wonder)
    9. UNTIL JUNE- Sleepless
    10. TAYLOR SWIFT- Teardrops on My Guitar (a lot of people don't know that she's actually an indie artist but that will be change on 2009 as Universal Republic is planning to release an international album featuring songs from her two independent releases from Big Machine Records)

    14. CARY BROTHERS- Rise

    17. FLOBOTS- Handlebars
    18. THE FRAY- How To Save A Life
    19. MUTE MATH- Typical
    20. IRON AND WINE- Flightless Bird, American Mouth (this song suddenly became a mainstream anthem due to the fact that it was used in the prom scene of Twilight. Prior to that movie, my boardmates criticized me for listening to this type of song as "weird ky mahilig ug kinaraan" although this song was released in 2007. BUt now, same people who made the comment giggles everytime they hear the song)
    21. COLBIE CALLAIT- Bubbly (myspace hit wonder later picked up by Universal Republic)
    22. JOHN MAYER-Your Body Is A WOnderland (he actually got his start with the indie/alternative radio show Reg's COffee House, the only radio program i know that plays music not played by cxommercial radio. And look where is John Mayer now? Mainstream loves him now and he didn't even sell out in terms of compromising his artistry. Infact he went the other way, instead of becoming poppy he instead go deeper in the blues...)

I don't know if these bands have reached/will ever reach mainstream but here they are:

The Shins (prominently featured in the movie Garden State)
    They Might Be Giants
Death Cab for Cutie (Soul Meets Body)
Feist (1234 was the main song for the ipod nano commercial blitz)
    Bright Eyes (Four Winds)
Neutral Milk Hotel (i have faith that they'll reunite someday)
Glen Hansard (won an Oscar for Falling Slowly along with Marketa Irglova)
    Spoon
    Sufjan Stevens (Illinois album)

...I could go on and on and on.

Peter, Bjorn and John - namainstream sa PBB

    sa pinoy

CIUDAD, DAYDREAMCYCLE and UPDHARMADOWN - medyo played sa MYX on mainstream shows nila.

but these bands deserve much respect as they don't go desperate in changing theor style just to capture the masses.
