  2. How to Make Perfect Gravy

For the past couple of years, we've grilled our turkey outside on our charcoal grill. I love the subtle smokiness of the meat and I love the way it frees up space in the oven. But there is one downfall. The gravy suffers. Why? The secret to the perfect gravy (flavor-wise) is those delicious brown caramelized bits you get at the bottom of the roasting pan. And you can really only achieve those if you roast your bird in the oven.

So I'm dedicating this Thanksgiving to gravy. I'm skipping ...

  3. ISTORYA BLOG #91: Endurance Training

    Featured in www.pinoyapache.blogspot.com on August 8, 2010

IT IS THE MIDDLE of summer, April 18, 2010. The hillsides are brown and the creeks are dry. Camp Red, meanwhile, is in training mode. The mainstays – Boy Toledo, Ernie Salomon and I – are towing a trio of bushcrafter wanna-bes – Niño Dizon, Dave Uy and Brady Betonio. Tailing along is Wil Davies (aka Jungle Wil) of Jungle Wild Adventures.

The route is Bebut's Trail, a beautiful trail that I have discovered on ...
  4. Fight afternoon slump with protein, not sugar rush: study

To combat mid-afternoon energy crashes, new research suggests reaching for a protein-rich snack instead of sugar-laden treat is the way to go.
It’s a common habit among workers who hold day jobs: come 3 pm or so, candy bars are unwrapped and sugar-laden beverages pried open. The objective? A sugar rush to fend off mid-day drowsiness.

But scientists out of the University of Cambridge have found that protein -- not sugar -- is what activates the cells that make people alert and ...

The Philippines is the number one exporter of bananas to China, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, making bananas the Philippines’ second top dollar-earner next to coconut with $720 million in total export earnings for fresh Cavendish banana last year alone.
    The ...

  6. 13 Surprising Ways to Fight Headache Pain

    Headache treatments

More than 47 million Americans have experienced a severe or debilitating headache in the past three months. Migraines alone affect 9% of the U.S. population and cost $1 billion a year in direct medical expenses.

There are the obvious choices for zapping the pain, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Motrin and Aleve, for example). People with migraines often take beta blockers or antidepressants to prevent headaches, and triptans, such as ...

  7. The Most Expensive Photograph in the World

This is the most expensive photograph in the world...

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...a/Rhein_II.jpg

It's called "Rhein II", and is a simple (in fact quite drab) photograph of the mighty German river Rhine.

It looks quite clean considering there are no people or buildings in the photo, but the artist "cheated" ...
