  1. There'll Be No Sunshine (And Other Water-Proof Musings)

I can't exactly recall when I last bathed in the rain. I remember as a young child how I would wait for the gutter on our roof to serve as the water course for rainwater. In my young mind, it resembled those showers in the bathroom which at that time only the affluent were lavishly using. When May came and drizzles started to grace the parched earth with a refreshing taste of rain, I would await rain days with much gusto, like a little kid who is excited to open her only birthday gift.

  2. Love without limbs

Last February 12, 2012, a girl named Kanae Miyahara married her one true love.

I don't know who Kanae is but I do know the one she got married to-- the man without limbs. This guy touched my life in so many ways-- Nick Vujicjic. He said he is worthy of love and someone is destined for him.

I have learned if you have learned to love yourself enough, there will be a glow within you that you may never know. And no matter who you are, no matter what your status is, it ...
  3. On Sandwiches

A student of mine was beaming with pride as she handed me their product: a sandwich with wheat bread and somewhat pricey fillings of ham, cheese and lettuce. In cooking class, they were taught how to make sandwiches and to sell them at a price that is approximately equivalent to the money they put up for buying the ingredients.

I accepted the sandwich and coyly asked her how much they earned for the project. "Teacher, we earned Php 540," she happily exclaimed. Curiously I ...

  4. Of Scars, Acceptance and Cerveza Negra

I have a scar in my lower right lip. I don?t know if some of you may notice it (check my profile pic) but somehow, it merged so well on my lips that it becomes so unnoticeable to others who really don?t pay attention to my lips. However, it brought me a lot of insecurities back then. I had to hide my smile and try not to pose too much in pictures. Some would make fun of it and call me ?Burot! Burot!? I hated my lips. I hated it so much I was actually thinking of saving back then for surgery to have ...
  5. The Journey With Cancer Part 3

    July 26, 2012.
    10.30PM.

I came from the pharmacy because I bought some of my Uncle's medicines(money was scarce at this time and his account got closed and the hospital bill was skyrocketing). I was happy because during the afternoon, his gastrostomy tuby was replaced with a sturdier one. I took a half bath, arranged my bed and was about to sleep, but when I did my check-at-my-Uncle routine before going to sleep, Orlan(the private duty nursing aide we hired) and me noticed that ...

2010 Winter Olympics Ice Dancing chamipion Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue when they were kids

As you're watching the Olympics on TV, I'm sure you might be wondering how to make your own kid to be a future athlete. You see Michael Phelps' mother cheering for his son and you're thinking that someday you'll see your kid competing in the big league. Of course every parent wants to provide what's best for their kids because their success will become yours. ...

  7. Trance Life

I often wondered why I continually put myself in a situation wherein I would lack sleep and feel awful the next day. Then I realize, with half of me hoping it isn't true, that I do so in order to put myself in a sort of trance as I go about most of my daily stuff. I find that when I'm in this state, I can focus on the things that matter; I tend not to sweat the small stuff, heck, I don't notice the small stuff, because all I want to do is to get everything over and done with so I can go home and ...
