iSTORYA.NET FAQ

Here you can find answers to questions about how the board works. Use the links or search box below to find your way around.

Who runs iSTORYA?

BeoR with the help of the other iSTORYA moderators.

How do I [insert action here]? This includes questions on anything that has to do with using the forum (ie. how to post an image)

For help on using the message board please refer to the following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages ...

Someone is breaking the rules/I need help, who should I contact?

If you need help, please create a new thread in the Support Center. Do not post in other threads unless it directly concerns your issue.

If a user is in violation of a certain rule, report the post by clicking on the appropriate icon in the post. We discourage other users from trying to do the moderator's job. Do not try to reprimand anyone publicly as this may cause further flames.

I want a forum added about [insert topic here]. Who do I talk to?

We are aware that people have many ideas and topics they wish to discuss and many times the appropriate forum might not be available. The straight-forward solution might be to add a separate forum. Adding a new forum is very easy, however there are factors that must be taken into account.

  • The main reason to decline a request is software. iSTORYA is run by software just like any other application. Although adding forums is easy, we must take into account the right time and the need for such a forum, otherwise it is waste of resources and bandwidth. A newer version of the forum we use to run iSTORYA is in development. When that version becomes stable, BeoR has plans on adding new forums, but not until then or unless there is overwhelming need for such a forum (or the hand of God).
  • Are there other users interested? We would all want a forum that interests us. I might be interested in Barbie dolls, but that isn't reason enough for a new forum about my interest in Barbie Dolls. There may well be others interested, but is it truely justified to add a forum solely for Barbie Dolls?
  • If you feel you still need to suggest a forum, please suggest the forum by creating a new topic in Support Center.

Also, just because the forum doesn't exist doesn't mean it hasn't been considered nor does it mean it won't be added in the future.

Why can't I access "Mature Discussions" forum?

As the forum name suggests, only users who are specifically given access to the forum will be able to access it. There are three questions that must be answered before they are eligible for access.

  • Are you above 18?
  • Are you able to conduct yourself in a mature manner and be able to discuss subjects that are not always acceptable to the general public?
  • Can you prove to the administration that you are indeed qualified to gain access?

If you answered yes to all three questions, then you are eligible. You may now stand up and do the happy dance.

Mature Discussions is currently closed to the majority of members until further notice.

How do I access the Mature Discussions forum?

As stated above, you need to have answered yes to all three of the questions.

There are many ways to prove to the administration that you qualify. The easiest way is to have a moderator vouche for you. If you know a moderator or are acquaintances with a moderator, then that is sufficient. This however does not guarantee access; as your previous posts might prevent you from gaining access. Your posts are very important to your eligibility to gain access to Mature Discussions. If you do not know a moderator personally or are not acquainted with a moderator, the only factor the administration has to go by when deciding to give you entry are your posts. Follow the rules, stay within the rules, and post sensibly; and your chances of getting access are very high.

When you are ready to ask for access, it is as easy as sending a private message to BeoR.

Premium & Platinum members who are 18 years of age or older automatically get access to Mature Discussions.

How is "mature" defined?

The definition of "mature" is subjective. What is mature to me, may not be mature to you, or the guy named Bob. In light of this, iSTORYA's definition of "mature" will rest with it's administration. Arguing with our definition of "mature" is fruitless and will get you nowhere. Trust me.

I disagree with a moderator or a moderator is abusing his/her powers! Who do I talk to?

First and foremost, make sure you are absolutely sure about where you stand. Admins and other moderators will always side with fellow moderators in a he said/she said contest. The best way to resolve an issue is to PM a moderator and explain your side. It is best to do so politely. Taking a fight privately is not going to get you anywhere. If you cannot resolve your problem, PM BeoR and he will decide what should be done.

What happened to my topic/post?

Before crying wolf, please make sure you didn't break any rules and that it really is gone. Both posts and topics can be searched using the search feature. Perhaps it has been merged with another topic? If unsure, PM a moderator explaining what happened and the content+title of your post/thread. Unless the individual moderator feels like it, WE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PERSONALLY MESSAGE ANYONE IF THEIR POST/THREAD WAS DELETED! This will not be discussed again!

Shouldn't I be informed if my topic has been locked/deleted/merged?

The moderators are not required in any way to inform a user if their topic has been locked/deleted/merged. We have gone down this road time and time again ... this will NOT change.

How do I upload/use an avatar?

First you need to upload your avatar to a host. You can upload images via the following websites:

Once you have your avatar uploaded, go to your Profile and click on "Edit Avatar", you have space to input the address/URL of your image. The address/URL must be the direct link to your avatar.

This is a direct address/URL:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/750/desktop0ks.jpg

Press submit and your avatar will appear under your username in your posts.

We advise that you use the hosts that we have listed so you do not encounter any errors such as hotlinking being disabled.

NOTE: You need to be at least a junior member (30 posts) to be able to use an avatar.

Can I change my username?

No. Changing of usernames has been disabled. We are trying to promote friendship, unity, etc... Changing your username will only confuse your fellow members. However, if you really think you have a valid reason for a change, contact the administrator(BeoR). A username change is granted on a case to case basis. You should have a valid reason why you want your username to be changed. Getting bored with it isn't one of them.

Why is it OK to sell illegal stuff in the real world but not here in iSTORYA.net?

It is NOT OK to sell anything considered illegal. That is why they call it illegal. What you see is a problem in law enforcement. iSTORYA has it's own set of rules on top of the already existing laws. This means that you can't do anything considered illegal while in here and we also can give you a ticket for being too loud.

Why isn't my signature showing up?

Signatures have been disabled on purpose. Certain users abused the system and soon that abuse spread like wildfire. Instead of punishing everyone who abused the feature, it was decided to disallow them altogether. A small few have ruined the fun for the bigger crowd. Certain users however are allowed signatures including our paying (Premium/Platinum/Partners), moderators and administrators.

Paying members are able to use signatures.

How do i become a Junior/Senior/Elite/CIA member?

By posting often. Please bear in mind though that useless/senseless/off-topic posts and those that violate the rules will be deleted on sight. Titles are merely gauges of how active members are and do not necessarily correspond to any special privileges. This is not a race of who has the most number of posts. Quality over quantity.

What are the ranks? ... and how many posts do I need?

  • Newbie - 0 - 99 posts
  • Junior Member - 100 - 499 posts
  • Senior Member 500 - 999 posts
  • Elite Member - 1000 - 1999 posts
  • C.I.A. (Certified Istorya Addict) - 2000 posts & up

I want to delete my post.

No can do. You can edit your posts but only mods and admins can delete posts/threads. If you want a post deleted, kindly contact any of the moderators and state the reason why you want your post to be deleted. Double posts will be deleted on sight.

How do I become a moderator?

This is not exactly a beauty-brawn-brain contest. Only the administrators know the ultra-secret formula on what makes a member a good mod. Incidentally they are the only ones who have the power to grant mod status to anyone.

I have changed something in my profile and now cannot log in.

Changes to your e-mail address and password require user confirmation via e-mail. The system sends an e-mail to your existing e-mail address or your new e-mail address. With that in mind, you must have a VALID e-mail address on file. There are two things that can cause trouble ... an error in the system and an error on the part of the user. If one of the two, or both happens, you will be locked out of the system. In this case, send a PM to BeoR or e-mail at beorski@gmail.com or vwenberg@ribbed.us explaining your situation to activate your account.

I am receiving spam via private messages. What should I do?

To be added.

Why can't people with "Newbie" ranks post at the Buy / Sell boards and what should they do to be able to post there?

Due to the number of bogus / shady / illegal posts, the administration has decided to let people "earn" their posting rights at the said boards. This way (we hope), people will value their posting access at the said boards and think twice about posting crap.

To be able to post at the Buy / Sell boards, one has to work his way up to "Junior Member" or avail of the paid options. Read https://www.istorya.net/forums/news-and-announcements/21662-new-changes-introducing-paid-membership-options.html for more details.

Why doesn't my post count go up?

You might be posting only in the Buy / Sell and Humor boards. Posts under those boards are not counted to encourage users to join more interactive discussions.
