There's no point of using kick-ass C++ in an enterprise development if you have team of VB programmers. I guess this analogy is true with friendster.

Also, Friendster is considered as small and not mission critical website so PHP is the right tool for them.

Ideally, apps such as Amazon or banking system needs a multi-tier architecture and PHP can't do that.

Yes, PHP for web development is fine.

Before when they where on JSP, i always have trouble logging in
and doing stuff i have to wait minutes before the page loads and
sometimes throws a 404 Page. And its not my connection.
Is this true with amazon or ebay?

With that kind of error, i can say java devs of friendster sux0rz. I reckon they keep restarting their servers why you keep receiving 404. I wonder if they know how to precompile jsps, creating page caching, or create robust frameworks.

    Mismo. Tumpak.

Focus on the problem domain not a programming language war.

    OT:
I visit friendster once a week. The initial version is better because it's simple. Now they have lots of features that add crapolas to the site. I believe Friendster will be doomed. They are just a fad, and fads are destined to be faded. Login form is in the bottom. Ack! this is the work of an artist, not a UI/usability engineer.

In few months, mapul-an nang mga tawo ani. They will realize that there's no real value on this site in the future. Mora ka'g galo^lo^ ani nga site, padaghanay ug friends, adding new accounts, mamugos ug suwat ug testi. Ahh! it feels good if someone writes you a testimonial.

for now Ill focus on what I know(PHP) if ever theres a need to switch or learn then let it be.

OT: friendster have lots of features that people doesnt really use or knows how to use.. a bulletin board that is full of spam.
and useless things about them selves(asking testi, etc.). friendster is a gathering of bored people thats what i think for now..
often times people keep on adding people they dont know creating lots of accounts to gain social status online. so sad..
