If you didn’t know it already, you wouldn’t know that the below video is a teaser for The Strain, a new thriller series from Guillermo del Toro that’s premiering early next year on FX. But it is. The vampire virus series that went full circle from TV pitch to book to comic and back to TV, features an accomplished cast, a cool premise, and the name “Guillermo del Toro” in the credits, so it’s already appointment television for the nerdy set, so what can the teaser add? A very ominous tone for starters.
In case you missed it when it aired during Sunday’s mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, or you didn’t realize that you were, in fact, watching a teaser for a new series, here’s the 30-second clip below:

So whoever “he” is, he’s certainly messing with the local rats. Cool effect, though. As Dr. Jones Sr. was well aware, rats are much worse than snakes.
The Strain will premiere on FX in July 2014. The series, which was created by del Toro and Chuck Hogan and will be executive produced by Carlton Cuse (Lost), follows a group of scientists and everyday civilians as the deal with the an outbreak of a virus in Manhattan that turns people into vampires. The Strain stars Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Mia Maestro, and John Hurt.
