Default 'The Conjuring' is the new Insidious of 2013

THIS MOVIE WILL SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU.

    Official synopsis:

"Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives."

Upon seeing the "From the director of Saw and Insidious," tagline on the trailer, you know you are in good hands with the movie. And according to our friends in Collider, James Wan only aimed for a PG-13 rating but it earned an R-rating simply for being "too scary."

The first trailer gave me goosebumps. Especially sa last na nga part.

And here's the first full-length trailer that was recently released by Warner Bros, which still gave me goosebumps. Especially sa last part gihapon.

Weekend Box Office: The Conjuring Scares Up Big Number One, R.I.P.D. is D.O.A.

With four new wide-release entries in theaters this weekend audiences had plenty of options to choose from, but pickings were slim for the movies themselves as the competition lead to just real one box office winner.

Supernatural thriller The Conjuring dominated, staking out an easy number one spot with a healthy $41 million debut. That total is the highest ever for a non-sequel rated-R movie of its genre, not to mention nearly double the movie's reported $20 million production budget. That's a nice little win for Warner Brothers, who are still reeling from the low response to last weekend's Pacific Rim. Thanks to international sales the summer kaiju flick just might end up not being a financial write off, but its still a low blow for what was pegged to be one of the summer's biggest blockbusters.

Despicable Me 2 dropped to second place, but with a healthy third weekend $25 million take it still out paced DreamWorks' animated feature Turbo. Cash is flowing in at a snail's pace for that movie, with just $21 million banked over the weekend, and only $31 million since an early Wednesday opening. Turbo's disappointing debut is one of the worst for DreamWorks and is only the latest disappointment in what has been a hit and miss run for the studio over the last few years.

Action comedy sequel Red 2 faltered, earning a fifth place spot with $18 million. That's a drop from the $21 million that Red took in its opening weekend in 2010.

The biggest loser this weekend was R.I.P.D. which arrived DOA in theaters with just $12 million. After taking a beating from critics, the supernatural action comedy got hammered with a seventh place opening and a grim outlook given its $130 million production budget.

Kristen Wiig's new comedy Girl Most Likely and Ryan Gosling's latest drama Only God Forgives both debuted in very small release, but fared well with 736,000 and $315,000 respectively

The Conjuring Clobbers Every Other New Release At Friday Box Office

Big-budget movies may be sucking up all the attention at Comic-Con this weekend, but it's a low-budget surprise hit that's actually dominating movie theaters. According to the early numbers at Deadline, The Conjuring is blowing away the rest of the competition, making $17 million on Friday alone and cruising toward a $38.5 million weekend. The James Wan-directed horror film is even getting much better audience feedback than most horror films, with an A- CinemaScore likely to help it stay afloat as the summer goes on.

While there's good news for one new film, there's bad news for three more, and none worse than R.I.P.D., the big-budget sci-fi adventure that's been pegged for failure for a while now and lived up to the low expectations; it made $4.7 million, only good enough for seventh place-- that's behind holdovers like Grown Ups 2 and even Pacific Rim, which was a much less drastic underperformer. The other two new releases were weak, but not quite as bad-- Turbo debuted at third place with $6.5 million, behind holdover smash hit Despicable Me 2, while Red 2 made $6.2 million, good enough for fifth place behind Grown Ups 2. Turbo will avoid the stigma of the being the lowest-opening film ever for DreamWorks Animation-- that title still goes to last fall's pricey misfire Rise of the Guardians-- but it's still pretty weak for an animated film that ought to appeal to huge audiences. It's genuinely bizarre when four movies, aiming for four relatively different audiences, open in a single weekend, and only one of them manages to sneak past the holdover competition out there.

Of all the new releases The Conjuring was also the one we liked by far the most, with Kristy writing that it's "an impressively frightening and engaging journey." Mack had the duty of reviewing Turbo, damning it with what was basically a sigh of a review: "I can't think of any reasons why anyone would like Turbo, just a whole lot of explanations of why it's halfway decent or kinda enjoyable at parts." I was really not a fan of Red 2, writing that it was "a hobbled mess, a sequel to a modest hit that nobody asked for." And finally, Kristy got to witness the disastrous spectacle that was R.I.P.D., writing both a review and a To 3D or not to 3D rundown-- sadly, neither of them really make a strong argument for going out to see it. This seems to be one of those flops that actually deserved it.

Let us know in the comments what you're seeing this weekend-- if you're not battling the hordes at Comic-Con, that is-- and we'll have a full box office report to you on Sunday.

The entire movie is indeed scary. At least that's what the critics are saying. They praised James Wan for using old-school scares to effectively elevate this movie from the all-too-familiar haunted-house genre.

And dont worry, we will get to see this one next month. The Conjuring will open August 21 in the country.
