A REPRINT
Sporty outfits that
'lighten' heavy bottoms
I HAPPEN to be one of those people who are gym-phobic. It started when I was working out and I overheard two trainers discussing the "burrito" at 50 degrees; one was wearing cycling shorts almost bursting at the seams because of her heavy thighs. The woman was very slim from the waist up but bottom-heavy. I went back to working out in the privacy of my room with my trusty videos.
Most exercise clothes are designed to flatter women who are naturally thin or top-heavy with slim hips and legs. But the harsh truth is 70 percent of women-and that includes me-get heavy first in the hip and thigh areas, before anywhere else.
I looked around stores for flattering gym gear that suited my body type and fitted my budget, and was surprised to find it in Converse-I didn't even know the brand had ladies' apparel. The price tag was very friendly and the material very durable and fade-resistant. A fab find: the long shorts with built-in briefs priced at 539 pesos that reached below the knee to midcalf, depending on height; made hips look slimmer and hid heavy thighs. Wear any tight shirt to show off slim torso.
For those with heavy legs as well, I suggest you complete the look with the White Road Traveler sneakers at 1,790 pesos with a chunky retro style that makes calves look slimmer and longer. Modern technology has been harnessed to ensure comfort.
Optional: I liked the quality of their absorbent shirt in cedar green/navy blue combination at P339.75. It had curves to flatter a woman's waistline. The cycling shorts offered tummy and buttocks control at 450 pesos.![]()
