    Default Kenjutsu guide-for those who are studying JSA:)


    This will serve as a guide for those studying Japanese Sword Arts in USC. Really hope it helps. Those studying is free to ask about the lessons we have.

    1. batto-draw the sword
    2. chudan gamae- middle stance
    3. noto- resheath the sword to scabbard.
    4. ippon me- first form (attack)
    5. shomen kiri otoshi- vertical dropping cut.
    6. nihon me- second form (defense)
    7. sakakesa-2nd cut diagonal cut at the right side of the neck.
    8. kesagiri-3rd cut diagonal cut at the left side of the neck.
    9. Tenouchi- proper grip for the sword.
    10. Japanese sword- Nihonto is proper than katana.
    11. bokuto- more proper than the term bokken which can mean any wooden sword.
    12. Koshimi- very low stance.
    13. jodan gamae- stance when weilding the sword above the head.
    14. zanshin-focus, awareness of the surrounding in executing every technique.
    15. hasso- figure eight stance, sword held at the side of the face or head. initial position for kesagiri. can be both left and right, migi hasso-right position, hidari hasso-left position.

    Announcement diay: Hyakutake Sensei will be here next month, i think on the 25 with a buddist monk planning to learn scuba. The Japanese headmaster i think will be here about four months from now after the Canada Kenjutsu seminar.
