Lightbulb Piracy: A Win-Win for the Console Giants?

Warning: Read THE FORUM RULES before posting in this thread.

This is a fact.

you have a point pero you are looking at the perspective of the console giants.

mosaka tinood ang sales sa consoles kay readily available na man to many users ang games because of piracy pero ang sales sa game developers mao ra gihapon. murag unfair na sa ilaha kay nakatabang silag boost up sa sales sa console thru making games pero ilang sales kay wa ni saka because of piracy.

its the game developers who has a lot of beef about piracy than the console giants.

you are looking about the console makers not the game developers, its very unfair for the game developers, halin tuod ang consoles pero ang games dili lugi pud ang game developer ang tendency ana dili na kau sila mu make ug games tungod lugi so connected ra gihapon....the piracy kills it...

you developed a program, not necesarilly software, that benefited the company. Nakahimo ni ug 1Billion pesos in net profit for this year all because of your idea, your determination nga ma-implement kadto nga program...pero wala ka kahibalo nga ang imong boss, nagsige ug palapad ug pahaba ngadto sa management. Ikaw? gitagaan lang ka sa imong boss ug 1Million pesos, for your great idea and dedication sa company ek ek ek...

as of now i will not support piracy for ps3 games...pero if dili mo slide down ang prices sa ps3 games dri sa Pinas then lain na ang storya if available na ang hacked games sa ps3.haha.

or sa DEMO nalng jud kutob libre pa!hahah

You are saying this by living in the Philippines where piracy is a given and often more convenient for many people. This is not the case in the US.

This is a fact.
This is only a fact in the monetary aspect of piracy ... and nothing else.

I don't even see piracy being a benefit to console manufacturers themselves. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 were both sold at a loss at launch to keep the price down and help gain some market share. Both Microsoft and Sony make up their losses somehow on the software (licensing and other royalty fees), and those overpriced accessories. Eventually though, manufacturing costs does go down after some time which means both companies will eventually make some margin out of each console hardware sold.

Now this is true for Microsoft now as they are finally making some little profit on each 360 sold, but Sony isn't out of the tunnel yet. Analysts are saying that Sony is still losing about US $40 for each PS3 Slim sold.

So even if piracy on the PS3 becomes rampant and majorly accessible on the platform, yes their install base might go up...but so will Sony's losses. And if they're not making money on the software since people are pirating, then their shareholders aren't going to be that pleased.

Microsoft has been profitable from 360 hardware sales for a couple years now I think.
