Illegal drug users, pushers surrender in Barangay Ermita, Cebu, fear Duterte]
CEBU CITY -- More than 50 drug users and 11 drug pushers submitted themselves to a mass surrender inside the gym of Barangay Ermita on Friday morning, July 1.
Senior Inspector Joel Corpuz of Carbon Police Station said when they conducted Oplan "Tokhang" or "Toktok Hangyo" at 6 a.m., the users and pushers expressed willingness to participate in a waiver signing as an agreement to stop their illegal drug use and trade.
One of the users admitted that he became empowered to change his life and to surrender following President Rodrigo Duterte's announcement to intensify campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs.
The operation is part of the Double Barrel program of the Philippine National Police with Oplan Tokhang as the first stage, while the second phase is the case build-up if they still continue with their involvement in drugs.
The surrenderees will be placed under six months surveillance. (Sun.Star Cebu)
