I distinctly remember him preaching mercy and compassion, but then again, I'm not Christian, so who am I to know?

It's all so telling, given how this country went bananas during Pope Francis's visit. But when the time actually comes to show empathy and Christian principles...well, some of the comments in this thread speak for themselves.

When Yolanda hit, Bangladesh gave millions in aid. That's a third world country with its own problems. Indonesia, yet another country with its own problems, gave another $2 million. You have the gall to receive foreign aid, but you think it's now unwise to actually pay it forward.

By the way, this wouldn't be the first time we've sheltered refugees. Please see: Philippine Refugee Processing Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But by all means, carry on with the politicking and self-serving circlejerk.
Feeding foreigners while giving them shelter on our own country is a different thing than just giving aid money to other countries.

Your logic is pretty childish, porket Christian majority ang atong nasud magpataka na lang diay ta ug gasto ug billions of Filipino Tax payers money sa mga foreigner while atong ubang mga sariling kababayang pinoy walay pagkaon ug walang balay?

I'm an atheist pero masabtan sad nako ang sentiments sa uban na unahon sa ning mga pinoy bag-o mga foreigner.

One boat can only contain a hundred or more refugees. So if one boat drifts toward the Philippines, di pud cguro Billions ato magasto pakaon ug patambal nila.

this is quite a problem, both sides of the issue have legitimate concerns. on one hand, we dont want to entice more boat people refugees by giving generous aid, and on the other we dont want to let these people die. these people left their country and risked all their lives by doing so. that only means, hopelessness in their homeland. i would suggest setting up a comtained camp for these refugees, and document each refugee so that we can issue a temporary visa for a year for all of them. then offer them a path for naturalization after a period of time (5-10yrs)and establish a program for them to integrate within Filipino society. yes, they will drain some resources from our taxes but after they are up on their feet then they can contribute to the ecpnomy.. our aid must have a defined limit in terms of extent and duration with the end goal of making them self reliant.

Logical question would be: can you let these Rohingya people live INSIDE your house?

If NO, then shoo them away from our country.

If YES, then accept them. Those who favor to accept the Rohingya should volunteer to have them live inside their homes.

And do you know why the Buddhists are driving these Muslim Rohingya out of their country? These are the descendants of Muslims who committed genocide on every Buddhist families, monks and women during the Islamic invasion of Myanmar.

Currently, Buddhists have raised alarm against them because of the spate of beheadings, murder and violence committed by these Muslim Rohingya against the native Buddhists of Myanmar. Now PNoy wants to import them. God Bless Philippines.
