But that is not to say that works are not essential. It only shows that ultimately that you CAN be saved without works – if it comes down to it, in your case na paralyzed.

The good deeds that you do you do it not so that you will be saved but because you're saved. It's not to gain salvation but the result of salvation.

No good deed can get man to heaven because our righteousness are like filthy rags(Isa. 64:6) and no one is justified by works(Gal.2:16). We are made righteous by our faith in Christ. Our righteousness is imputed to us, it's not our own(Phil.3:9, 2 Cor.5:21).
