file sharing is ok as long as you dont violate any copyright protected materials being shared without the consent of the owner/author

that depends.. as what I have known for example downloading MP3 or videos they could be legal if personal use. But if you make a copy and sell it to the public that action could be illegal already..

I don't know about the file your sharing your attempting. anything you share without involving money then that could possibly be donation hehehhe Just guessing at the last part..

I was wondering if P2P is illegal, I've seen P2P software's out there can download just about anything.

As has already been said P2P (peer to peer) is NOT illegal. You can download anything through P2P including open source software, free software, shareware software, even Blizzard uses P2P to distribute their patches. P2P IS NOT ILLEGAL. What you do download CAN be illegal. It is the same with any CD/DVD writer. The technology isn't illegal, but can be used to do things that are illegal.
