    from ph photo:

    Epson Photo Imaging eXposition 2006

    Call For Entries
Hot on the heels of the huge success of EPix05, imaging technology leader Epson Philippines Corporation invites all professional photographers and photography enthusiasts to submit their entries to EPix06 under the following themes, which are in line with Epson Philippines`corporate citizenship program and commitment to the community and the environment:

    Themes
    (1) Vanishing Scenes (2) The Filipino Achiever

Open to all recreational and professional photographers living in the Philippines and abroad.

The competition is divided into two divisions, Enthusiast and Professional. There is no
age limit as to who may enter. Participants may submit any number of entries per
theme, but must choose only one division.

    (1) Vanishing Scenes
This theme welcomes photographs of local aesthetic masterpieces or traditional/historic Filipino architecture. This may include photographs of old houses, buildings and churches, as well as statues, vehicles and other infrastructure. Taking a photograph of a particular subject preserves it for posterity. A photographer chooses his subject precisely because he believes it to be worth keeping or holding on to =96 especially if that subject is already on the verge of vanishing. Nothing truer could be said of photographs taken of our national architectural treasures. It is regrettable and deplorable that most, if not all of the Philippines' old churches, theatres, public infrastructure and residences =96 some of which date from as far back as Spanish times, are steadily headed for destruction, because of neglect, ignorance and lack of preservation efforts. Through this competition, EPSON aspires to do its part in finding a remedy for this unfortunate condition.

    (2) The Filipino Achiever
This theme encompasses portrait photographs of modern-day Filipino heroes in the guise of ordinary, working class citizens. This may include portrait photos of traffic enforcers, soldiers, construction workers, domestic helpers, athletes and so on. Photographs have the ability to elevate what is seemingly ordinary, to a level of recognition and respect. When a photographer takes a picture of a person, he invites you to take a closer look at his subject to give you a chance to appreciate that individual for whatever it is that he/she does, and what he/she has achieved. These individuals may not be politicians, movie stars, music idols or members of the elite, but they can be considered heroes for doing their best to help make the Philippines a better place, making them ideal subjects for celebration among our country's people.

    CONTEST MECHANICS

Participants may use any Digital or Film Based camera, provided that the photo entry will be printed on an EPSON printer (Serial number is needed) and on any brand of photo paper. The entries submitted should be of the following sizes:

    Enthusiast Division: A4 or 8.5 inches x 11 inches
    Professional Division: A3 or 11 inches x 17 inches

Bleed or borders are optional, but should not exceed one inch (1") on all sides. B&W, sepia, colored, digitally converted or film negative entries will be accepted. Printed output that is manually retouched and/or painted over is not allowed. However creative effects done within the camera at the time of exposure, such as multiple exposures, flash fill, lighting, filtration, etc. are allowed. Digital retouching is tolerable on density, contrast adjustments, minor cropping on composition, burning, and dodging. Major manipulation of main images through adding and subtracting are not allowed.

The photo may or may not have been taken during the competition period.

Entries must not have won any other contests/competitions nor been published in any book.

The name of the participant should not appear on the face of the entry.

The decision of the board of judges will be final.

Selected entries will be required by EPSON and its organizer to submit the ORIGINAL negative or digital file for evaluation and publishing purposes.
