Default Breaking Newa: P22 wage hike for Central Visayas workers approved

    Thursday, November 8, 2012

CEBU CITY (Updated 5:15 p.m.) -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved a P22 increase for Central Visayas minimum wage earners on Thursday, after a three-day marathon deliberation.
The increase will take effect on December 10, said Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Central Visayas Director Ma. Gloria Tango in a radio interview.
She said that according to the RTWPB-Central Visayas chairperson, the new wage adjustment was a consensus of the two representatives from the management sector and two representatives from the labor sector.
There was no more voting and no more participation from the government sector, she added.
With the approval of the P22 increase, all the minimum wage earners in Central Visayas who are currently receiving P305 daily will now get P327 per day once the order takes effect.
The Associated Labor Union petitioned for a P90 per day across-the-board increase, while the Alliance of Progressive Labor asked for P120.84 across-the-board wage adjustment.
But Tango said that in the RTWPB-Central Visayas history of deliberations, the amounts being petitioned were not given because they are not only looking at the welfare of the working class but on its impact to the other sectors, especially the micro, small and medium enterprises. QUESTION:

How about those above minimum wage earners like 320 per day? Are they qualified for the said increase? Its at least a good news for us pero still gamay lang gihapon kay atong palitonon kay permi magtaas.

What crack are you smoking? Philippines already has the highest minimum wages and unemployment rates in Asia. Despite that, it is still one of the poorest.

Singapore didn't have a minimum wage for over 40 years since its founding and it is now the richest country with the highest wages in Asia. Minimum wages distort the compensation system across the board, it rewards the least skilled workers at the expense of skilled, key workers. But at the end of the day, it makes doing business in this country more expensive than it has to be.

22 pesos per day x 400 workers is how much. You're a fool if you think this is a small amount of money multiplied over a month and year it accumulates into a significant amount of money. And this isn't the first wage increase they've granted this year so think about that. Many industries are already struggling, especially exporters. I understand your ignorance, you are clearly looking at this from the standpoint of a minimum wage earner, and not a business owner.

Minimum wage is a leftist, commie idea that has no basis in economic theory and has never been proven to actually improve the welfare of workers over the long term. The communists ignore very basic economic principles like the inflationary impact of minimum wage increases because they are only interested in destabilizing the country by making it less competitive, more impoverished and therefore more susceptible to leftist dogma.

"The Philippines has the highest wages for workers among third world countries in Asia, according to the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP)."

"Data from ECOP showed that the minimum daily wage in Metro Manila stands at almost $10 a day compared to $2.20 in Vietnam, $2 in Cambodia, $2.90-$3.00 in Indonesia,$5.20-$5.90 in Thailand and $3.75-$5.00 in China."

are you a businessman too ?? if you are, are you honest with your BIR reports ?? Do you pen in your exact and honest income for the month ? or do you do the MAGIC ?
That's all I need to say because that is all you are. You come from a philosophy where others should be forced to give you a wage just because you think you're entitled to it.

On what do I need to elaborate more on a solution to a problem that doesn't exist? It's only a problem for you, because of your sense of entitlement. The problem isn't that the wage isn't enough, the problem is that you think you should be paid a higher wage without justifying why you should be paid more for a job that's already being done in other countries for less than half the price you're being paid. You exist in a fantasy land where the Philippines isn't competing with other countries for jobs and investments. You're just pissed off because I told you the reality, that despite increasing the minimum wage all these years, life now isn't necessarily better than it was 5 years ago.

And then you still ask what the solution is for this? Maybe you ought to ask how we can solve your attitude problem.

Honest with BIR reports, honest income, magic.. I could answer you that, but I won't because the topic is minimum wage increase, not how much I make or the taxes I pay.

I won't spoonfeed you information that you can easily find yourself. Minimum wage distortion, inflation, business competitiveness can't be discussed in a single post but minimum wage increase isn't the solution to the problems in this country.
