for a start, we are basing our claim here:

"The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), also called the Law of the Sea Convention or the Law of the Sea treaty, is the international agreement that resulted from the third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III), which took place between 1973 and 1982."

tungod lng sa UNCLOS, atoa na dayon ang Spratlys? nahimo lng 1973 ug 1982? seguro kung 1700 or 1800 kana seguro or way before, but 1982 lng?

That's the time where formality of agreement was established, where all the involved countries (including China) in the disputed islands signed and agreed. But this is not the first time we have expressed our interest and claimed our ownership sa spratlys.

"In April 1949 , the Philippines sent its navy to explore the Spratlys. An article published in Manila Bulletin on May 15 1950 said that the Philippine government should occupy the Spratly Islands together with the United States because it was closer to Palawan compared with China and Vietnam."

And these are the 3 basis of our claims:

    1. 200 Nautical Mile Exclusive Economic Zone (UNCLOS)

    2. The Spratlys Archipelago is very close to the Philippines in less than 200 Nautical miles compare to Vietnam and China

    3. The historical rights as the ancestral domain of the Sultanate of Sulu date backs from the Mahjapahit and Shrivijaya empires, which extended from Sabah (North Borneo), the Sulu archipelago, Palawan, parts of Mindanao, the isla

    ....

naa ka punto bro monrose29 nga it will not enriches us right away, as well, it can even become another source of corruption automatically

however, does it mean nga we will easily give what belong to be rightfully ours?

kun tirahan ta nuclear missle, para nako kay walay na ta ma-hemz ana ... though di nako pwede aghatun tanan but i rather die standing fighting the enemy ... than begging for mercy in our knees

mao bitaw na we bring our fight sa UNCLOS kay we can't fight China militarily

besides, the said place may not be oil rich pero it's not only oil that we are after

other resources sab like panginabuhi sa atung mangingisda na karon kanunay na lang gipangdasmagan sa mga barko sa China

ang mga corals ug turtle nga gisayun-sayun ra kuha that reclaiming those islets will definitely changed the landscape nga nakadaut sa kina-iyahan sud sa atung exclusive economic zone

ug labaw sa tanan ang atung katungud isip Filipino nga di na lang yanung tunob-tunoban

good for Singapore nga island state sila nga datu ... but i can also say nga what our government do now is also good to bring it to arbitrary court. kun mapildi ta sa arbitratry court UNCLOS then perhaps that will be the moment we rethink our position sa West Philippine Sea

afterall, di pa hopeless ang tanan
