^ I understand your sentiment against Chinese government but there's nothing unique about China in the way it's acting. This is how powerful nations have always acted towards smaller countries that's why there isn't a superpower that hasn't annexed territory it doesn't own at some point in its history. The only answer to this is regional cooperation between smaller countries because individually none of the countries that China has territorial disputes with can win a war against them. If you're in doubt, ask the Vietnamese how they lost an entire island to China. Defending our territory is noble, but without regional cooperation it's suicide. We need action from ASEAN now not the eerie silence we're getting from people who are our so-called allies. I'm really upset that ASEAN has been so quiet about this, what a bunch of spineless cowards they are more afraid of losing trading rights to China rather than making a stand to defend one of its founding members.

It has been mentioned before, but there are striking similarities between what in happening now in China and the events leading to WW2. Nationalistic fervor fueled by propaganda, rapid militarization and capitulation from regional players at the expense of defenseless nations. The worst thing we and others can do is to pretend that everything's okay because frankly speaking the writing is on the wall.

Diplomacy requires some type of leverage whether it be military or economic. We have no cards to play other than the hope that the US would come to our rescue. The best solution for us and other concerned parties is solidarity through ASEAN. Without unity we have little bargaining power. China is fully aware of this which is why they are insisting on bi-lateral talks.... it weakens our position considerably.

Since Scarborough Shoal is an inhabited island and it is was nearer to the coast of the Philippines than in China, it's worth of fighting.

China is insisting their claim not just in Scarborough Shoal but also to the entire Spratly Islands just to fuel the increasing needs for growing Chinese economy and also the way for the Chinese government controlled by the Communists to divert their people's attention from most urgent socio-economic problems of China like unequal development of regions in China proper, repressive political discourse, and impending competition with the United States.

It is just a matter of diplomacy not just by the Philippines but also to the all countries who have a legitimate claims in Spratlys. In order to taste the potential wealth from Spratlys and Scarborough Shoal, we must assert our national defense, use the all methods of diplomacy to force China into the table and also to the part of the government, they should ensure transparency in managing government finances and enforcing contracts with any foreign oil companies who wishes to tap the oil and natural gas resources in Spratlys and Scarborough Shoal so that the potential wealth would not going to be squandered by few unscrupulous crooks.
