Default New Dog Sport in town: K9 Nose Work

    What is K9 Nose Work?

K9 Nose Work is the specific sport created and sanctioned by the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW). This sport was inspired by the training methodology of detection K9s and borrows elements of that training for recreation. The terms nose work, fun nose work, scent work, search work are all commonly used references to describe any activity where the dog is using its nose to locate a target scent or odor. K9 Nose Work is the term that defines this detection inspired sport that has evolved from the pursuit of many dogs (with their handlers) to practice nose work and have fun.

One of the many challenges faced by working K9s and their handlers is encountering new environments and scenarios daily. This challenge will be reflected in the sport through differing search environments and requirements of each trial location.

Therefore the general rules and guidelines will apply, but handlers and dogs may encounter point-scoring variations at each trial.

    K9 Nose Work Trials:

Trials may be held for the purpose of competition, titling, or both. Only NACSW sanctioned trials however may award the official work titles and certificates. Additionally, the prerequisite Odor Recognition Testing must be awarded by a NACSW certifying official.

    Who Does Nose Work?
    Can my dog do that?

    But of COURSE!!!!!
If your dog has a nose, you need only find what truly motivates your dog to start you down the nose work path.

Don't you need to have the right kind of dog? Like a...
    ....Labrador
    ....German Shepherd
    or
    ....Bloodhound

The answer is no. Those breeds are usually very talented at nose work, and are probably the most well known sniffer dogs, but they're not alone.

Nose work is just a recreational sport that teaches your dog to find a specific target scent or odor.

While Tracking is encouraging the dog to sniff around to identify the scent to be followed. Because the direction is established the dog should be able to (with training) pick out the correct trail to follow.

I am still not getting it . Heheehe ....

Both still carries the same definition right ?

An OBJECT is the SUBJECT regardless if it has a trail or not . To completely finish the mission by TEACHING the DOG to SNIFF through TRAINING .

Yes, same in the sense that the dog uses its nose to find the subject. But tracking is to leave a scent of the subject so that the dog will pick up (ex. wounded animal, fugitive running away, or moving subject that leaves a trail). Nose work is more like drug and explosive detection. The subject is not moving or leaving a trail.

As of August 20, 2011 Board of Trustee meeting of PDAA (Philippine Dog Agility Association) and Dog Sport, Nosework is now an official event of PDAA. We will be having the 1st trail this october in Nuvali Laguna hosted by the BetterDog Canine Behavior Center (a manila group that is under PDAA).

I dont know how you guys do it but it seems the NOSE WORK is engaged with the same training I know or at least witnessed by trainers with dogs who are Schutzund quality here in Cebu . Example would be , placing 6 to 8 bite size hotdogs / meat chunks or whatever is preferred in different locations unknowing to the dog . The test here is accuracy , it will only take for the dog to fail the test I believed 3 to 5 times man guro to raise there heads . All the time gyud , need to sniff sila sa ground until all 6 to 8 subjects are tracked .

Correct me if I am wrong , the TRACKING you are probably talking about is the action of a RESCUER with the assistance of a K9 .

ANyways .... gi develop na lage ang location sa Paseo Arcenas ? Isnt that supposed to be sa K9CARE ? Asa na ang new venue ninyo sir ? WOuld like to see the dogs in actions .
