Cannot read from DVD

Just encountered this problem recently, I wonder if someone could shed some ideas about optical drive issues.
My dvd drive cannot read any dvds or CDs. I have tried an external USB dvd optical drive but still has the same symptoms.
I was thinking its an OS problem but I tried to boot from my internal DVD with a windows 7 DVD Outside of the OS stil cannot read the win7 dvd even outside the OS! When my system would read my dvd drive it wouold just freeze up in windows or outside the OS.
I havent tested from booting to the external dvd drive though. Any sugestions Since I suspect its my motherboard has a problem since it would have the same symtoms even with another dvd drive.

My mobo is DFI UT P45 T3RS

found out the problem it was a bad sata cable.
