Reporter RG Cruz Almost Famous for Facebook Comments
Manila Bulletin - Thursday, September 17, 2009
There is potential hazard in uploading one's personal views to cyberspace.
ABS-CBN reporter RG Cruz had to learn this the hard way.
Cruz is now the subject of a 'white paper' circulating within his home network. The letter lambasted Cruz for "unwarranted personal aggravation" for "attacks" that he had posted in his Facebook account against a "First Lady wannabe."
Though ordinarily, this would've been dismissed by most-and swiftly at that-the letter gained mileage recently when it was picked up by a popular broadsheet, reporting that the white paper was purportedly written by Korina Sanchez, one of the network's top anchors.
Sanchez is engaged to marry Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas, a presidentiable who withdrew recently to give way to Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
The letter writer took offense to Cruz's comment about someone "whom Cruz eventually admitted was Korina Sanchez" as a "queen in her head without a crown" and one "who would eventually be a bad spouse."
"(The comments) were as creative as creativity can many times be borne of spite and utter, utter hatred," the letter read.
The letter went on to twit Cruz's fashion sense.
Writing about Cruz's supposed affinity for wearing long coats a la "Keanu Reeves in the movie 'Matrix"' the letter writer said: "It is ability, track record, integrity, honesty, diligence, intelligence, compassion and vision that should bring an aspirant to his rightful place in history, stupid. Not long coats!"
The letter writer warned Cruz thereafter: "So to you, RG Cruz, I say, I hope that... you will, henceforth, attempt to save yourself from the very real prospect of disappearing, leaving this world without a trace, no better and even worse than when you found it."
Cruz and Sanchez were unavailable when sought by Manila Bulletin Entertainment Online.
Remarking on the issue, Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Division Head, said in a statement that they are still "looking into the issue."
Prior to the white paper incident, Sanchez was dragged into controversy when she let loose over people -- including Senator Francisco Kiko Pangilinan -- whom she felt had been critical of her beau.
Appearing as guest on a radio broadcast of friend and colleague Ted Failon, Sanchez called Pangilinan "shameless" and "(an) ingrate."
When asked about Sanchez's comments, the senator's wife, singer-actress Sharon Cuneta gave a diplomatic response.
"I feel that we, as the wives and partners of senators, shouldn't get involved in issues concerning the senators. They are intelligent and educated men and can very well resolve problems on their own...without our interference.
"We're not perfect, but the public knows my husband and I are upright people. We are certainly not known for 'betraying' our friends."
