interesting thread. Lisod for me to choose between davao & cebu. I have heard about Duterte & quite frankly I admire the man. I could say that Tommy is a little bit similar but mas luag lang (maybe coz of CHR). One member of this thread mentioned that we aren't talking about economy diri nga thread, which i beg to differ (no offence meant). Economy is part of the reason why we move (or why we prefer living in a certain place over the other). para sa mga tao nga wa pajud kaadto sa davao(like myself), i would like ask the following:

1)sayon ba mangita og work diha sa Davao? Unsay kosug nga industry diha?
2)how about cost of living sa Davao, taas ba? Pila ang Minimum sweldo diha?
3) Is it (more) affordable to Buy or build a house in Davao than Cebu?

i know Davao is a great place & it is know for disciplined people (or maybe Good Governance). I hope someone can share.TIA

On question 1: It's easy to find work in Davao nowadays considering the emergence of the BPO industry in the last few years. Among the BPO companies presently operating are: Sutherland, Concentrix, Cybercity/GCom, Callbox, AM Solutions among others. BPO companies expected to start their operations in Davao in 2011 or 2012 are VXI (has conducted Jobs Fair already), PeopleSupport, Accenture, Sitel, IBM, Convergys, etc.

On question 2: It's relatively the same with Cebu. Some items like fruits and vegetables are definitely cheaper in Davao but imported items such as surplus multicabs, trucks and spare parts, much better in Cebu. Overall, it's almost the same.

On question 3: I cannot answer this. I haven't tried buying or building a house in Cebu as I stay at our ancestral house in Pardo while in Cebu. Maybe you can google it...

mahal na gamay diri sa cebu if magpatukod ka og house or even buy one..a duplex subdivided house is roughly around 2M to 2.5M (outside cebu city price : 100 to 150SQM lot). Low cost & socialized housing would cost about 600K-1.5M depende sa kadak-on sa house. if kadto na mga high end houses samot kamahal..hehe

Job opportunites in Davao are not as much as in Cebu. There's no EPZ yet in Davao but there are a handful of multi-national companies currently operating that are employing engineers. The banana exporting companies (Big 3 are Dole, Sumifru, Tadeco), for instance, are still on a massive expansion mode. The real estate industry as well is exponentially booming where malls and condos are sprouting like mushrooms.

Both Duterte and Tommy O are good leaders. They share common vision. This could be a good team-up for Pres and VP in 2016, what do you think? Tommy O for Pres and Duterte for VP. It's time for VisMin to take the lead. But this would be in another thread

Thank you for your info about acquiring a house in Cebu. I appreciate it. I hope to hear more positve things from the forumers as well. Let's count on the blessings rather than looking on the other side of the coin. Thanks for keeping this discussion worthwhile.

Again, DVO is similar to a COMMUNIST CITY, it is clean but the income and the economic activity of the people and the business sector does not reflect it's cleanliness. Peaceful? Yes it is but do not neglect the existing fact that the government has been using SECRET means of maintaining that peace. I don't want to live in a City where your life is at risk of being shot dead on the street for just littering or throwing garbage anywhere.

Terrorist safe? No, Cebu is much safer from terrorism than Davao. A terrorist can get into Cebu through only TWO WAYS, either they get a ship or use an airplane but would that make sense? Cebu has no land border with anybody, the sea is our shield. Unlike Davao which like manila is a trans-regional hub for an island of big area. Anyone can get across the border of Davao either through the Port, Airport or the Bus Terminal and more especially, you're the nearest big City from the Abu Sayaff and MILF strongholds. Of course businessmen would fear investing in Davao because they really can't get a guarantee of the safety of their business there since the War is still ongoing.

Like you pointed out accurately, the only reason why Davao, and Mindanao in general (except CdO, it's part of Cebu daw), lags behind Cebu in terms of economy is the very perception that Mindanao is HELL deep in the minds of foreigners and STUPID Filipinoes like you. We Mindanoans have no business trying to change that. We are not insecure of who we are. We are very proud.

With your tiny and barren island and insular mentality Cebu has no real advantage over Davao and Mindanao with its vast and rich land and diverse people. We have everything you have and and a million times bigger and better. But we have a lot that you DON'T and WILL NEVER have. Outsiders just have that wrong perception about us. THAT'S ALL!

Cebu is famous for it's economy? HOW FUNNY! Like what one Cebuana I know told me, Cebu is now a mini-Manila. And that's what you'll always be: MINI! She would always beat around the bush. PITY. She even told us a story of a Tagalog soft skills trainer in Cebu and how poor her English was because she was Tagalog. She was indeed Cebuana, INSULAR.

You're mocking Davao's good governance, cleanliness and ecology because they're not good measures of economic progress.? HOW IMMORAL. Kaona na imong economic progress dong. Utilities to clean up and color-code spaghetti wire

CEBU, Philippines - Local public utility service providers have agreed to clean up the city streets of sagging wires and
excess posts within six months to a year.

Mayor Michael Rama said the service providers of cable television, telephone and electricity assured him that they will look into
the presence of “spaghetti” wires all over the city.

During his regular press conference yesterday, the mayor said the utility companies agreed that there will be a system of
wiring by means of color-coding for immediate identification.

Rama said the wires pose risk and danger to both pedestrians and motorists as most of them are left dangling perilously low.

Agreeing to the suggestion of the mayor, the utility companies agreed to color-code their wires for easy identification.

Skycable will use sky blue; Bayantel, orange; VECO, black; Digitel, powder blue; PLDT, yellow; Innove, dark blue and CCTN, silver.

Veco corporate communications manager Ethel Natera said the company wants to meet with officials of Globe, Smart, PLDT and
others to come out with an agreement on how to solve this problem.

Natera said it will be difficult to keep blaming each other and it is more important to gather all the telecom and cable firms to
resolve the problem.

PLDT customer service chief Bong Lintag echoed Natera’s sentiment and said they have spent P6 billion nationwide to repair their
spaghetti wires.

He said they were among the first to comply with cable tying and color-coded bundling of cables in Cebu.

The officials, however, disagreed on adopting an underground cabling system, saying it is inconvenient and expensive. (FREEMAN)
