One member of this thread mentioned that we aren't talking about economy diri nga thread, which i beg to differ (no offence meant). Economy is part of the reason why we move (or why we prefer living in a certain place over the other). para sa mga tao nga wa pajud kaadto sa davao(like myself), i would like ask the following:

1)sayon ba mangita og work diha sa Davao? Unsay kosug nga industry diha?
2)how about cost of living sa Davao, taas ba? Pila ang Minimum sweldo diha?
    3) Is it (more) affordable to Buy or build a house in Davao than Cebu?

i know Davao is a great place & it is know for disciplined people (or maybe Good Governance). I hope someone can share.TIA

On question 1: It's easy to find work in Davao nowadays considering the emergence of the BPO industry in the last few years. Among the BPO companies presently operating are: Sutherland, Concentrix, Cybercity/GCom, Callbox, AM Solutions among others. BPO companies expected to start their operations in Davao in 2011 or 2012 are VXI (has conducted Jobs Fair already), PeopleSupport, Accenture, Sitel, IBM, Convergys, etc.

On question 2: It's relatively the same with Cebu. Some items like fruits and vegetables are definitely cheaper in Davao but imported items such as surplus multicabs, trucks and spare parts, much better in Cebu. Overall, it's almost the same.

On question 3: I cannot answer this. I haven't tried buying or building a house in Cebu as I stay at our ancestral house in Pardo while in Cebu. Maybe you can google it...

    @mc888: thanks sa info bai.

    1) I am not much interested sa BPO industry but thanks anyway. how bout other Jobs? naa ba lain oppurtunity for a guy like me who is into engineering? like diri sa cebu naa man sad MEPZA, & naay mga export manufacturing factories.

mahal na gamay diri sa cebu if magpatukod ka og house or even buy one..a duplex subdivided house is roughly around 2M to 2.5M (outside cebu city price : 100 to 150SQM lot). Low cost & socialized housing would cost about 600K-1.5M depende sa kadak-on sa house. if kadto na mga high end houses samot kamahal..hehe

Google is not that reliable at all times. Forums are even much more informative at times.

I have heard how relatively safe Davao is.& i believe in Duterte's leadership. Mayor tomas is similar..but cebu city is not the whole cebu. i love cebu but this thread is nice because we can weigh our options if naa tay mga info like this. kung kinsa pa toy maka share, please do share.. kapoy kaayo nang debate oi...hehehe discuss & share nalng..TIA

Job opportunites in Davao are not as much as in Cebu. There's no EPZ yet in Davao but there are a handful of multi-national companies currently operating that are employing engineers. The banana exporting companies (Big 3 are Dole, Sumifru, Tadeco), for instance, are still on a massive expansion mode. The real estate industry as well is exponentially booming where malls and condos are sprouting like mushrooms.

Both Duterte and Tommy O are good leaders. They share common vision. This could be a good team-up for Pres and VP in 2016, what do you think? Tommy O for Pres and Duterte for VP. It's time for VisMin to take the lead. But this would be in another thread

Thank you for your info about acquiring a house in Cebu. I appreciate it. I hope to hear more positve things from the forumers as well. Let's count on the blessings rather than looking on the other side of the coin. Thanks for keeping this discussion worthwhile.

Asa nindot puy-an or suroyan: Cebu or Davao?

LIBRE. Professional keu and rescue team nila. Bcn man ganing naaksidente sa motor kay ngdrive nga hubog irescue ghapon. Aq pay driver anang 911 aq ma na clang ligsan ba..hehehehe..Only in Davao. Datu lagi and Cebu sa kwarta pero kung serbisyo sa mga pobre lau ra keu mo sa Davao ambot lng ug ngano daghan man untag mog kwarta.?!

    2. Anti-smoking ordinance - Let those who have visited Davao speak for it.

    4. Firecracker ban - Only in Davao ra pud ni. Daghan taga laing lugar muingon KJ kuno ni. Ana man jud na pirmi.

Gamay rag limpyuhon ngano dili man makalimpyo. I'm puzzled. Nakaadto nako sa Manila hinoon. And Manila ang pinkanakakapuzzle. Nag ulan ug datu sa Manila pero gabaha ug pobre nga way atiman. Tabangi intawon and Manila Ginoo ko! Daghan na keug hugaw sa Manila. Ambot lang mahinlo paba kaha na.

    6. Nature - Ang yuta sa Davao hastang lapada ug hastang tamboka. Tanan klaseng tanom naa diri. Tanan klaseng hayop na diri. Ug Tanan klaseng tubig nga hinlo naa dri. Again, unahon and kauhan sa kadaghanan bahalag way kwarta.

    7. Ug daghan pag butang nga nkapanindot sa DAVAO puy-an dili nlng q mgtell unsa pa. Kabalo na mo. Dili nlng gani nko kwentahon ang among modern traffic signals. Naa man pud daw ni sa Cebu pero dakung pangutana nganong mas nindot sa Davao nga mas datu man unta ang Cebu. hehehehe JOKE LANG! PEACE!

With all the car plan and work abroad and all the benefits medical, dental, legal, educational, emotional, physical, psychological, psychiatric hahahahaha JOKE, na ginahatag sa mga multinational plantations diri. Hayahay unta ilang pamilya. Pero cyempre sosyal man. Dili mag-uma. Maoy gidangat.

Cymepre CEBU jud. Pangalan palang daan CEBU: Islands in the Pacific vs DAVAO: Murder and Bombing Capital of the Philippines KUNO! Reputasyon palang daan hastang pildiha na namo. Hay katawanan! Pero bitaw Cebu. With all the high-end malls and the high-rise buildings kaon jud mig abog diri sa Davao ginukod sa Cebu. Naa man pud malls and buildings diri sa Davao naa puy Mt. Apo, Samal, White Water rafting, Zipline, Moountain resorts ug daghan pang Uban. Well, tama pud.

Tommy O for Pres and Duterte for VP? HUH?!!! More like the other way around IMO. Anyway, that will never happen. And Davaoenos are glad it won't. VM Duterte would always say he's not qualified for a national position. He doesn't have a Ph.D..hahahaha..si VM talaga nagbibiro.

Unsa paman diay lain natong basehan nga nagalambo ang lugar kung DILI SIYA KA-REFLECT SA EKONOMIYA?
    :eek

Well hinayhinay lang pre sa imong baba offensive kana. Like you pointed out accurately, the only reason why Davao, and Mindanao in general (except CdO, it's part of Cebu daw), lags behind Cebu in terms of economy is the very perception that Mindanao is HELL deep in the minds of foreigners and STUPID Filipinoes like you. We Mindanoans have no business trying to change that. We are not insecure of who we are. We are very proud.

With your tiny and barren island and insular mentality Cebu has no real advantage over Davao and Mindanao with its vast and rich land and diverse people. We have everything you have and and a million times bigger and better. But we have a lot that you DON'T and WILL NEVER have. Outsiders just have that wrong perception about us. THAT'S ALL!

Cebu is famous for it's economy? HOW FUNNY! Like what one Cebuana I know told me, Cebu is now a mini-Manila. And that's what you'll always be: MINI! You're famous because of your beaches and of course your bitches. And the hordes of BPOs branching out in Cebu? Well, naturally Manila is cramped and Davao is in Mindanao, next stop Cebu. Cebuanos are DREAMING thinking that BPOs prefer Cebu because Cebuano's are somehow better in speaking English than Tagalogs and Davaoenos. HOW INSULAR! Every well educated Filipino speak the same level of English PERIOD! Take this as an example, a Cebuana failed in Soft Skill training here in Davao recently. I know because I was in the the same class as her. Her English was fine, nothing worse or better than us Davaoenos. But she was absent-minded. She didn't answer the trainers' questions properly. She would always beat around the bush. PITY. She even told us a story of a Tagalog soft skills trainer in Cebu and how poor her English was because she was Tagalog. She was indeed Cebuana, INSULAR.

And whatever happened to CEBU IS THE BASTION OF CHRISTIANITY AND MORALITY IN ASIA. You're mocking Davao's good governance, cleanliness and ecology because they're not good measures of economic progress.? HOW IMMORAL. Kaona na imong economic progress dong. Dugay ra unta mi nadatu king gitugatan pa ni Mayor Duterte and mining sa Davao City. But no. ENVIRONMENT comes first before ECONOMY.

You know what, we have gone through a lot of tough times here in Mindanao that we hope other places not only here in the Philippines but also in the world not to go through the same things we have. But if you continue on insulting us because we are Mindanao then we might as well pray that you Cebuanos experience what we have experienced just so you know what you're talking about. Remember what happened to Bali, Indonesia a few years ago? Bali is a popular tourist spot, a magnet for foreigners and terrorist. Well it's safe to say Cebu is the Bali of the Philippines. Beware! Good luck sa inyuha. At least kami after all what happened here we are still standing tall. Kamo ambot nalang. Nino. Problems is those people behind the attacks, they don't believe in your Sto. Nino. GOODLUCK!

You even have the nerve to call us COMMUNIST CITY. Panginsulto pa dong bacn gusto ka mg start mi diri ug signature campaign againgst Cebu. Ihatag namo kang GOD-KNOWS-WHO.

I am a Davaoeno and I am a Mindanaon. We are a peace-loving people but not the kind who will back away in a fight especially against mockery to our identity.

I quote the late Michael Jackson: "When a lie is told often enough it becomes the truth". And you FOOL BLEEDING IMBECILE is perpetuating that lie. You have no idea how hard Davaoenos work to keep our City clean, peaceful and green. Instead of insulting us why don't you come here and see for your IGNORANT and ARROGANT self how great Davao, and Mindanao, is and help us spread that good news to the world. In that case we could finally break free from that very wrong perception people like you have of us. Mindanao will see its full economic potential and spread out to Cebu and the rest of the Philippines. More economically progressive Mindanao means more Mindanaon tourists for your beautiful island resulting to more progress for Cebu. That is if you still have room for us considering that you are already full of foreign tourists. WIN-WIN for all.

CEBU, Philippines - Local public utility service providers have agreed to clean up the city streets of sagging wires and
excess posts within six months to a year.

Mayor Michael Rama said the service providers of cable television, telephone and electricity assured him that they will look into
the presence of “spaghetti” wires all over the city.

During his regular press conference yesterday, the mayor said the utility companies agreed that there will be a system of
wiring by means of color-coding for immediate identification.

Rama said the wires pose risk and danger to both pedestrians and motorists as most of them are left dangling perilously low.

Agreeing to the suggestion of the mayor, the utility companies agreed to color-code their wires for easy identification.

Skycable will use sky blue; Bayantel, orange; VECO, black; Digitel, powder blue; PLDT, yellow; Innove, dark blue and CCTN, silver.

Veco corporate communications manager Ethel Natera said the company wants to meet with officials of Globe, Smart, PLDT and
others to come out with an agreement on how to solve this problem.

Natera said it will be difficult to keep blaming each other and it is more important to gather all the telecom and cable firms to
    resolve the problem.

PLDT customer service chief Bong Lintag echoed Natera’s sentiment and said they have spent P6 billion nationwide to repair their
    spaghetti wires.

He said they were among the first to comply with cable tying and color-coded bundling of cables in Cebu.

The officials, however, disagreed on adopting an underground cabling system, saying it is inconvenient and expensive. (FREEMAN)
