Here's mine:

1. Hiko Seijūrō XIII (Rurouni Kenshin) - IMHO, Kenshin still can't hold a candle to his master.
2. Kisuke Urahara (Bleach) - Super cool as a mentor. Still love and laugh at that time when he fooled Ichigo into doing that sentai or tokusatsu superhero stuff.
3. Yōjirō Akizuki (Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto) - I was forced to choose this guy over Samurai Champloo's Jin and Mugen.
4. Manji (Blade of the Immortal) - Immortal protagonists are a staple in my sword fighter list... but I was still forced to choose him over D from the Vampire Hunter D OVAs for some reason.
5. Arashi Kishū (X) - IMHO, she's still way cooler than Saya Otonashi from Blood+

I remember Nobuhiro-san mentioning he had problems about including Seijuro in the fights, it'd create so much imbalance.

Well, if I recall correctly, Nobuhiro-sensei said something like: "Hiko Seijuro's like the Joker in a card deck. He's simply too powerful." I guess that's why he only appeared in one fight against the 10 Swords and it just had to be up against another Joker in that group. As for the physique, I'd have to agree with you on this one... who would have thought that he'd be hiding an ultra-chiseled physique underneath that heavy cloak. I guess Nobuhiro-sensei could have drawn that physique better (at least sa anime it's colored and the animation makes it less of a turn-off).
