i can relate. i'm the silent type and i absolutely hate confrontations. once, i had this gf who lived in a boarding house somewhere in cebu.

to get to her house, i would have to go through some small alleyways. it wasn't really dangerous and a lot of people there were decent. however, there were a group of "tambays" who always heckled me when i was the only one passing by and who would make rude comments when it was the both of us who went through.

i later found out that one of the tambays was interested in my gf. i would just smile at them and let it go at first. after a while, it got annoying but my gf, whenever we went through those tamabys, would hold on to me tight. she would tell me not to make trouble because it would get back to her (she was not from there).

what i did was, i contacted one of my friends who knew some people. i was saving up for money to pay off "someone" to do "something" about these guys. my gf found out, though (i'm a bad liar) and made me stop. oddly enough, the heckling stopped a few days later as well.

i didn't end up with the girl, though. she went back to her province and, last i heard, she was a foreigner's pet.
