Default Gaming laptop, ideal specs -- at what price point? aka Best bang for your buck

If looking for a gaming laptop, what is a good/decent spec? and how much should it cost?
also if you have a certain budget, what specs would you expect to get?

EZRA pointed out that to be realistic, let's limit the budget to $4,000
I tend to agree. anything above that probably unreasonable. the performance to price ratio is greatly diminished.

and now the question is.. are you willing to pay for that price? hehe

i would love the new 15" alienware laptops. put an 8800GTX in there and I'm willing to pay up ~$2400
i dont care about all the other specs as they can be easily upgraded. if the 8800GTX is MXM then even better!

Oh no... I'm not shelling out 8K para gaming laptop ra - payts na kaayo nang 8k para down-payment ug awto. Ni ingon man gud kag IDEAL so I was thinking "cost no object"

If mo budget kog $2500 - I'd go for the XPS M1730 preha kang Jordinho. Payts sab nang bag-o sa Alienware pero mas nindot ug mo release silag 17" nga model.

I just spent a little over $2k for my XPS M1530 pero di gyud ni siya pang gaming. Di man sab kaayo ko tig duwa gud.. ug mo duwa ko, GUILD WARS ra akong duwaon. Pang all-purpose ni akong laptop pero I had it configured nga makadagan ug mga games nya dili magkagidlay ang agi sa system.

Dara specs sa akong XPS M1530

    XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800MHzFSB, 4M L2 Cache)
    3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, for XPS M1530
15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ TrueLife for XPS M1530
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
200G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor
    8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive for XPSM1530
    Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-card

As I've mentioned sa pikas thread about laptops - ug dili palang kaayo dako ang XPS M1730, mao gyud akong kuhaon. That system is almost better than ***. Pero baga ra gyud kaayo unya it's on the heavy side - not the most portable laptop out there.

the 17" laptops are great as desktop replacements. but If i want all around gaming anywhere i'd choose the Alienware m15x gaming laptops. kaso mahal ra kaayu so i just settled for the Gateway P-6831 FX which components rival that of 2000+ systems but costs about $1500

@ezra. Yeah I said ideal.. but i also said how much you are willing to pay for it.
I used to have teh XPS m1530 too with T7500 and WSXGA only. Two months later when I saw the 17" gateway with the specs and price, it was TOO affordable that i had to buy it right then and there. Gave my XPS to my wifey hehe.

@jordinho: I though 8700m GT imo video? murag nag post man ka something like that sa post your rigs section? maybe lahi to or maybe nag upgrade ka? are those cards in the XPS m17 series of the MXM form factor?
