This is a great movie treat for great action fans from the 80's up to the present. The Expendables is an upcoming action movie in 2010 written and directed by Sylvester Stallone. It is expected to come out on April 23, 2010.

Included in the cast are Stallone (Barney Ross), Jason Statham (Lee Christmas), Jet Li (Bao Thao), Mickey Rourke (Tool), Terry Crews (Hale Caesar), Dolph Lundgren (Gunnar Hansen), Eric Roberts (Monroe), Steve "Stone Cold" Austin (Dan Paine), and cameo appearances of Arnold Schwarzenegger (as himself, the California governor) and Bruce Willis (Mr. Church).

Aside from the star studded cast made up mostly of the 80's action stars, the film includes MMA/UFC fighters Randy Couture, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

The plot of the film is all about a team of highly trained, deadly combat mercenaries that goes to South America to overthrow and execute a villanous dictator and his army who was causing chaos and devastation for 20 years.

Big names such as Jean Claude Van Damme, Sandra Bullock, Forest Whitaker, Kurt Russell, and Steven Seagal were also approached while Wesley Snipes and Britanny Murphy were considered to have some roles in the film.

The film is said to gain overwhelming positive reaction in it's early test footage. This is something to really watch out for.

Some updates.

Jean-Claude Van Damme was personally offered a role by Stallone, but turned it down.[3] This reportedly led to Dolph Lundgren being cast instead although it is not confirmed whether it was the same part. The role accepted by Forest Whitaker was originally conceived as a role for Wesley Snipes but later rewritten for Whitaker.[4] Due to a scheduling conflict prior to filming, Forest Whitaker was replaced by Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent) for the role of Hale Caesar.[5] He was then replaced by former NFL player Terry Crews.[6]

Steven Seagal was also asked to play a cameo role, but turned down the offer due to negative connections with the producer Avi Lerner.[7] Hispanic actor Danny Trejo was rumoured to play Emmanuel, but on June 15, he revealed that he was not even cast for the role. Instead, he is currently in the works with Robert Rodriguez's Machete.

On May 29, 2009, the script under went a few re-writes which ultimately excluded Brittany Murphy's character. Sandra Bullock was also rumored to have a role in the film, but revealed that she didn't even know about the project. Despite the news, she did express interests in working in another action film and would like to work in the film, it just depended on the storyline.

The role of the man who hires the Expendables, Mr. Church, was very difficult to cast. Initially offered to Schwarzenegger, he declined in favor of a smaller cameo in respects to his political career. The role was then offered to Kurt Russell whose agent replied that he was not interested in "ensemble acting at the moment." Stallone spent several months after principal photography determined to find a big action name for the part. Rumors suggested that the role had been offered to friend and fellow former Planet Hollywood co-owner Bruce Willis, who was busy filming of A Couple of Dicks. Willis finally confirmed on August 17, that he will play Mr. Church and that his scene will feature himself, Sylvester Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I'm looking forward to this movie. Stallone's last film, Rambo, was good to a certain extent. But I felt that its graphic gore was quite intense.

It's too bad the Schwarzenegger and Willis are limited to short appearances.

I know lots of people wishing to see an entire action film led by Stallone and Schwarzenegger (or Willis) as the primary stars.
