    Default About speedtests and servers

I recall reading on a thread that to get an accurate speed test result, it would be best to use a server not assigned by the ISP. For example, instead of using SMART's Makati or QC server, use one that's in a different location and not managed by your ISP.

What's the rationale there please? Why would the results (typically) differ (greatly)?

your speedtest results are just showing your bandwidth and latency...

kung mangita kag server nga lain, maybe that server is closer to your location (chances are - lower latency). hardware-wise, basin mas paspas og mas modern ang server sa lain provider so chances are, you may get better results...

bottomline, balhin2x og server and location (US, SG, etc...) then i average na imong results... you'll get more accurate average in that case...

ako i don't mind those speedtest results much... for as long as i am getting the max actual download speeds then im all good.

This is a good thread. Testing via a server on your ISP's network will often show good results, but try testing elsewhere and you may get wildly different info. I would consider using your ISP's test servers pointless as IMO you are testing intranet speed not internet speed. You should also test for ping, jitter and packet loss to get a better idea about the quality of your connection.

the proof of the pudding is in the eating,

i download random stuffs para testing,
pareha ani, I have no need for this file, delete ra pagkahuman download.
so far ok man ang 788 pesos nga connection

So are you saying that I need to test the connection on multiple servers then get the average? Is this as accurate as it can get?

Ah, so that explains it: internet vs intranet. I am familiar with ping and packet loss but I need to read up on jitter. Thanks!

Sorry tried to look for the app in your screenshot. What is it please?

Also, I understand you use this approach to measure your mileage. How has it been so far?

    IDM - Internet Download Manager

as i've stated "proof of the pudding is in the eating"
Speedtest results are based on what - 10-20MB download/upload?
You may get good results but for all we know it could be just those "20 second turbo and it slows down" crap
    some ISPs are implementing.

IMHO, mas accurate ang actual downloads esp of a larger file.
Mahibaw-an gyud nimo ang "sustained rate"

regarding the "mileage" - yup that's another way of putting it.
My ISP, PLDT MyBro, is 'implementing" a Fair Usage Policy of 15GB/mo.
Exceed the 15GB and they'll throttle your speed "daw".
I have on many occasions exceeded that "15GB" threshold in just a day
pero I've never experienced the 'speed throttling" basta on time lang akong payment.
