Default Nikkor 35mm 1.8G vs Nikkor 50mm 1.8G: Which is the better lens?

With the popularity and reliability of prime lenses, I would like know which of the two lenses is better in terms of image quality and over all performance. I am aware that the 50mm 1.8G has carried and even surpassed the performance of its predecessor - the all time favorite "nifty-fifty", but what about the 35mm? How does it compare to its 50mm brother? If you were to choose only one, 35mm or 50mm? and why?MODS please close if this thread already exist.

I think image quality-wise, you can't be wrong with either lenses. Ang problema nlang dayon is what focal length are you comfortable with (focal length that fits your shooting style).

i have tried both and preferred the 35mm because i have a cropped sensor camera. tight ra para nako ang 50mm. but the image quality are more or less the same.

It would really depend on how you are going to use these lenses. I have a 35mm, and I chose it over 50mm for a reason that i 35mm has a little wide angle view to it and i can use it for landscape shots. For me 50mm is just too tight as I'm using D90.

I've tried the 50mm. It has great use for portraits specially for headshots. It also has a great bokeh than the 35mm.

Depende sa style sa shooting. IQ is almost the same but I prefer sa IQ sa Nikkor 50mm and mo prefer ko sa 35mm for shooting landscapes...For walk around I will go for 35mm.

I'm a 1.6 crop user. I've used a 28mm and a 50mm and I find the 28mm too wide and the 50mm too tight. I was able to test a Canon 35mm f/2 and I found the length just right. However, I didn't get it because I think Canon's 35mm f/2 is too expensive. It's old and at f/2. I heard that Nikon's 35mm 1.8 uses newer tech and of course is 1/3 faster. If you're a crop user, then go with the 28mm or 35mm. I was told it's better to shoot a little wider (you can crop later anyway) so yeah 28mm might be a better choice for us croppers. Sigma has the 30 1.4 which is probably better but is only a crop exclusive lens.

    Here's a comparison between 18 vs 28 vs 35 (I think I used my kit lens)

If you have a kit lens, I say use it on Saturday at 35mm (I used masking tape to prevent it from zooming in/out) and then shoot the same things with it on 50mm on Sunday. Better if you photowalk so you get to shoot different things. That's what I did before

Update: I sit corrected, it seems the Sigma 30 1.4 will still attach to a full frame but the effect is weird
