    your facts are WRONG.

in fact, *3370# is the code to activates EFR or Enhanced Full Rate codec on nokia phone itself... thus calls will use up about 20% to 50% more power hinuon!

to deactivate EFR code is #3370#...this changes codec to Full Rate only (or *3070# man ceguro to activate FR) thus saving battery life compared to having EFR activated during voice calls only. in some nokia models that support phase 2 GSM naa pa gyud Half Rate only which saving more power pa gyud during voice calls. but newer models dont have half rate anymore. only FR and EFR. some models cant manualy change it.

i dont think later phones like 2600 and 3200 works with this code though.
per country release, its preprogramed into the phone what codec it will use. only a pc direct interface with special software and loading process can you activate or deactivate the EFR in some models.

mind you that using FR, voice quality becomes very poor compared to EFR.

Its a far cry from being a 'battery reserve'...hehehe!

actually EFR, FR and HR are also available in other phone manufactures like SE and seimens etc...naa na sa settings nila. in some models including some nokias, automatic siya use highest codec then mu lower lang siya if not available ang EFR.
    -------------

also the 112 works even without sim card.
however try using that here in the philippines, you will only hear a prompt to dial another number for emergency assistance. but when you dial that other number nothing

ang gamit ra gyud anang 112 diri is to check rare units if they are 900mhz or 1800mhz GSM capable phones. specially those units gikan sa gawas na ipa unlock sa clients nako. or block units you want to check if they have signal (basin transmiter gyud ang guba)

New generation encoding. The successor to Full Rate (FR), Enhanced Full Rate (EFR), is the new generation encoding system used on GSM networks.
    What is Codec?
    * It's an encoding/decoding algorithm. In plain terms, it's what converts the electronic analogue signal from a mobile phone's microphone into a digital signal that can be transmitted.

    * Codec also performs the reverse operation: it converts the digital signal into an analogue signal emitted by the speaker on your mobile phone.

What is the advantage of EFR?

    * Under optimum communication conditions, the quality of conversations provided by EFR is almost identical to that available on the landline network. Superb!

*3370# This Nokia code activates Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) - Your Nokia cell phone uses the best sound quality but talk time is reduced my approx. 5%

#3370# Deactivate Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR)
