    Inday O,

It has been awhile since I have been on that Ormoc-Pasay land trip, but I did take that, just for fun and for the experience. Hence, I am not certain if the Matnog ferry (Sorsogon) to Allen in Samar is still operating. That is your critical link in that land route to Manila. I would recommend that you load up your vehicle in that Manila-Cebu ferry instead of taking the land route. However, if you should decide and take that land trip...

The Ormoc to Tacloban route is OK. I think that is about a 2.5-3 hour trip. The Tacloban to Allen (Samar) leg gets old really quick. The road was OK (I dont know if the govt has done any work on that road). In the past, there were only 2 trips on the Allen-Sorsogon ferry crossing -- may or may not have changed. So, if you miss the morning run, then it is a looooong way until the PM run. Then you are over on the Luzon side, with an eternity of driving ahead. I remember I took the bus to see Mt. Mayon along the route. Of course we passed Mt. Mayon at 2 in the morning----at least it was a moonlit night, I got to see the cone... Then more driving... Other tidbits along the route: the Quezon "bituka ng manok" leg, as the name suggests, is very circuitous. During my first trip on board a public bus, I remember the cans of crackers falling from the overhead bins when the bus driver was negotiating the curves; in another trip, I remember passing a (dead) body on the road in one of the Samar towns -- nobody wanted to stop for anything; in my first trip, the ferry boat was being repaired and we were stranded in Allen, and boy, the wait was looooongggg. BTW, the Cebu to Ormoc ferry crossing is not too bad. There was a time when a ferry boat travelled to Isabel. Very convenient in moving cars and trucks. Now I don't know if that ferry is still operating.

This is where my memory fails me---and you can tell it has been a long time since I have taken the trip. But others should be able to fill in and will certainly recommend that you load up your car on that Manila-bound boat, and arrive in Manila relaxed and refreshed. Best of luck.

P.S. If you do decide to take that land trip, and if you pass by the Mt. Mayon area in broad daylight, do make a quick stop by the Cagsawa ruins. But then again, please heed my suggestion (see above).

    Samar
Tacloban to Catbalogan, expect 1st 52Kms nga maajo & dalan while remaining ngila-ad na kaajo
    Bicolandia
Matnog - Sorsogon - Legazpi, maajo man ang dalan, puede nimong eh floor ang pedal & get your top speed
Legazpi - Naga, same with Matnog to Legazpi road

In other words, para sa land trip.. it would take me more or less 20 hours of travel.
This is including the driving and the ferry ride. It would cost me around 4K of gas.
Hing mahal naman pud ang gas gud. Plus around 1K for the ferry ride to Samar..

Roughly, I save 5K if have the land trip.

I and my companion are not familiar with the roads and highways. Bisag nka land trip ko sa
una From Bicol to Manila... wala naman gyud ko nahinumduman.. I remember mga 8-10 hours to sa bus though.

Okay unta if somebody who is seasoned in land tripping from Cebu to Manila is with us. Kami ra man gud duha ako
bf kuyog. Mag puli puli mi ug drive.

Bitaw? Bukid man gud dha..
Ako sa huna hunaon.. Pero karon murag padung gyud mi mag barko..

Thanks guys sa inyong mga advice..

    Inday O,

Twenty hours is a very conservative estimate IMHO. The ferry crossing between Matnog and Allen is a big production in itself. Figure on 30-36 hours, including all the rest, fuel, food and whatever stops. Then there are other variables like flats, mechanical breakdown, rough weather, etc. Unless you really have to, I suggest you pay for the extra 5K and load your vehicle on that boat. I can see it now: Cost of Loading Vehicle on Boat, Php10,000. Snacks on board, Php 1000. Quality time with BF: Priceless

    Best of luck.

20 Hrs from Cebu, i think you cannot make it.

Kami ra man gud duha ako bf kuyog. Mag puli puli mi ug drive., geeezz whizzz Luis , ka lami ba ani paminawon

2X a year ako mag sked ug long drive from Manila to Leyte, so far wala man ko ma timingi sa Samar.
If i may, mas pili-on nakung mag land trip kaysa mag barko labi nasa panahon karon.

The "pikas" route is interesting---a hint of adventure. However, there's a lot of sea crossings involved---and all the hassles that go with it. If there is no daily barge/car ferry service between those islands along the route, man, that would be a trip heading nowhere fast. Compare the red (via Ormoc) and yellow ("pikas") routes. NB circles denote sea crossings.
