I thought this coming election will be the last time we will see from an Osmena clan running for a local post. I thought Tomas' "last act of an Osmena" is true to his word. dili man diay...
you know folks, even if Georgia O. or Sonny O. may not be with Tomas' camp (politically and personally), but all along, blood is thicker than water.
My speculation is that this is just an age old tactic where kunohay "One Osmena-doesn't-know or care-another Osmena-will-run" thingy but actually was part of the overall grand master plan -- to retain control of Cebu City by the Osmenas.
Why? The 3 magic letters -- S.R.P. (kung sa uban pa, it is S-ayon R-a and P-angwarta)
do you even wonder why Tomas has to field his wife Margot for the City Council? Some coffee talks say that she will be there in the Council to babysit Mike Rama, in case he wins as city mayor.
whether it will be Georgia O., Sonny O., or Mike Rama who wins next elections as city mayor, I suspect Tomas will still be operating behind the shadows...
kung c Atan Guardo pa ang pasulti-on, "Georgia and Sonny Osmeña for mayor. Tommy Osmeña for congressman, Margot Osmeña for councilor. Need I say more?”
anyways, don't get me wrong here. I am totally in favor of Georgia running for mayor (against my personal choice Mike Rama) and Margot for councilor. But for Sonny O., not.

Sonny brings poll issues to YouTube, Facebook
Sunday, November 1, 2009
THE most senior aspirant for the Cebu City mayor’s seat, so far, is using the hippest political campaign materials now available — YouTube and Facebook.
Former senator John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña brought his political issues to YouTube, a video sharing website, yesterday morning through a podcast or Internet broadcast.
As of 6 last night, there were nine viewers of his YouTube posts. He had two posts, one talking about Cebu City politics and the other one talking about the non-extension of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) registration.
Sonny also created a Facebook account, a social networking website. As of last night, he already has 129 friends.
Sonny told Sun.Star Cebu that he started his day at 2 a.m. yesterday, browsing through the news websites. He then set up his computer so he could start making commentaries of certain issues he read in the news.
He said he finished about 6 a.m. because of the various steps it took to set up a YouTube account, as well as editing his pieces.
Sonny believes today and the next few days would be easier for him. He plans to make regular podcasts.
“It is the most effective, time-efficient campaign strategy. It beats the pulong-pulong of (Cebu City Mayor) Tomas Osmeña,” said Sonny.

i think I can agree in general that ang modus sa mga Osmena, Garcia, or even the Duranos, are almost one and the same. Only differs in style.
I don't even think nabulahan ang Cebu City sa SRP pgkakaron. while we are enjoying less traffic going to the south and faster travel time, remember that Cebu City constituents still have to pay the large debt incurred for the loan. I even want to think that even our grandchildren's children will still have to pay that loan w/ their taxes.
as we all know, Cebu City is now wallowing in debt, BIG TIME.
if and only if a Garcia (or any other opposition) can win as Cebu City mayor, my only hope is that he/she can turn around Cebu City's finances from one of the biggest debtor cities to one of the "debt-free and financially sound LGUs" in the Philippines, just like what Capitol did w/ Cebu Province. but of course, without the Balili-like controversies...
any politician like the Garcias know well as a rule of thumb that if one like Tomas is losing grip on politics, say, in Cebu City, it is an opportunity for them to make a move and grab that opportunity. In politics or war, "opportunity" is one of the basic principles...Sun Ztu's art of war kumbaga...
