www.votefortheworst.com is probably the main reason why sanjaya is still up there.
what credibility are you talking about? the judges are mainly there to narrow the contestants to 24. from then on they exist just to provide comments. the ultimate decision emanates from the voting public.Originally Posted by klavel
if the people want a contestant to win the prize, then that means they love him/her and they are more than excited to support his/her career. they consider him/her to be an 'american idol'.
now, where does credibility come in, when everyone can vote- from impressionable 12-year olds to sentimental grannies, who may not necessarily have technical backgrounds in music?
meaning: The Winner may or may not be the best singer.
...their credibility "as a singing talent search" would be affected, since Sanjaya, a good singer yet not the best of the pack, will probably win because of some stupid campaign spreading in the net..they know he's not one the best yet they vote for him just bec. it's their idea of FUN..AI's existence would no longer justify as a talent search but more of a popularity contest because of that..Originally Posted by tagatisa
judges are not merely there for the reason of narrowing the contestants to 24..they also help the public with their opinions...it is a fact that voting plays the main criteria (criterion, if voting is the ONLY basis).
AI have been producing great singers though not all gained commercial success but nevertheless, they possess great voices..Sanjaya is good but not that great..it will affect AI, definitely..ratings and all..
I turn the boob tube off when it's Sanjaya's turn to sing. I have had enough of him.
He has to go...soon!!!
i still don't get where crediblity comes in. credibility requires expertise. voters are not seasoned talent agents like simon cowell. it's an entertainment show where people can just do whatever they want to do. if they want to vote for the 'worst', they can. it's not about credibility, it's about popularity. like what you said, it may affect the ratings. so we are talking popularity contest.Originally Posted by klavel
it just so happens that the judges are good at narrowing it down to 24, that most of them are good singers. among the 24 the most popular will become victorious. the most popular; the one who has created substantial drama and gimmickry.
if we are to follow logic, why in jove's name will sanjaya's win affect the ratings, when, in fact, it is the majority that will vote for him and they are the ones watching the show? no wonder the show's producers are so not worried whether or not sanjaya will win. no matter what, they are the ones reaping the rewards of the shows 'popularity.' they don't care who wins or who goes home next week.
i agree with you there. some loyal AI fanatics even said that they won't watch the show anymore if sanjaya continues to stay and much more better contestants will be eliminated just because of a group of people who is out to prove that the worst could win in this contest. and to think that these fanatics have been watching the show since the first season so this could be great loss to AI. for the record, AI have produced vocally competitive winners in the first 5 seasons, though not all of them sold many records but we can't deny the fact that they have not only good but "great" voices...Originally Posted by klavel
