We have two different accounts: one from a Catholic priest, Msgr. Kriekenbeck, who said "What took place was a result of emotional disturbance, anger and hatred on the part of the students" and the other from the nun who made the wild allegation of levitation and what-nots. A lot of people here who buy this story are clearly just believing what they want to believe. They ignore one account and quickly latch on to the other.

One guy (someone who keeps posting conspiracy theories and antichrist/end-of-the world videos) here is saying "Oh, Msgr. Kriekenbeck was bribed into saying those things." Seriously?

Here's how the Catholic Church go about these things before they jump to conclusions:

A typical investigation is essentially a process of elimination. Is there any other way to explain the subject's behavior besides demonic possession? Often, the priest will consult a psychiatrist in his investigation in order to determine whether the "possessed" person's symptoms can be fully explained by mental illness. There are psychiatrists who usually evaluate potentially possessed subjects for the Catholic Church. The subject will also undergo a medical examination to find out if the symptoms can be attributed to a physical disorder or illness. Another possibility the investigator must consider is plain old fraud.

If the priest is convinced of the validity of the possession and that an exorcism is the appropriate way to help this person, he will report back to his supervisor (in most cases, the diocesan bishop) that an exorcism is in order. The Church may then decide to sanction an official exorcism and appoint an exorcist to the case.

In this particular case, was a psychiatrist consulted? No. All you have are two contradicting testimonies. You have to do better than that.

If you have a psychiatrist (those with a sceptical bent) look at a video of a typical "possessed" individual, he or she will show you a textbook example of a psychogenic seizure (or pseudo-seizure). When you compare the two, they both share the same symptoms. Individuals who have these usually have some underlying stress problem or emotional difficulties. One might view it psychologically as an escape or avoidance type of behavior. Meaning to say, the real world is too stressful and the patient withdraws and pulls himself into a separate world.

Why do we buy the supernatural account rather than the scientific one? Tsk, tsk, tsk....Filipino propensity towards superstition and supernaturalism is indeed legendary. A very sad state of affairs we have here.
