Are you discounting the works of directors such as lino brocka, ishmael bernal and mike de leon?

so unsaon man? kung atong idub sa bisaya ang TV series, will it be the effect be the same?

do you mean na ang atong movies should also be in english?

Naturally, it would be the same if it was Cebuano but I think Arnel is disappointed that these tv shows have been molested in that way...

I might be very slow here, but he speaks of us being so backwards because what's supposed to be English has been turned into Tagalog - he's probably infuriated at the same kind of eccentric patriotic pride that the media displays, e.g. We're very proud because some obscure swordsman's blades is used in LORD OF THE RINGS, or the obscure basket weaver getting a lot of "ridiculous publicity" because her products were used in NOTTING HILL... and the tv especially notes that it was made in the Philippines by us Filipinos. instead of just promoting THE OBSCURE PERSON WHO HAS RECEIVED HER LITERAL 15 MINUTES OR 10 MINUTES.

^^ I guess it's that kind of attitude he doesn't like, and maybe it's the same attitude that motivates people to dub English tv shows. to quote him making us more "backwards"...

    Sakto ba?

actually mrbiddle, the question was directed to arnel and not you. which is why i wonder why you had to answer for arnel. unless of course, you and arnelmation are the same person.

you do not have to explain to me as if i was a grade schooler what he "probably" thought.

twice you have done this already.

while i respect your understanding of films, your "know-it-all" attitude is just irritating.

right now, you are even trying to tell me what arnelmation was "probably" thinking. i don't want to know what he was "probably" thinking, what I want to know is what he IS thinking and not some guess.

learn when to answer and when to shut up.

here's a question for you mrbiddle:

you say that filipino movies improved with you around.

what have you contributed to improve the state of filipino movies? for instance, in cebu?

I am sure that you, and people like vanceloma are aware that I have contributed nothing. Anyway, prior to my editing of that post, it was just swaggering pompous claim I'd never want anybody to take seriously. I am not even all-that familiar with Filipino movies as some of the people posting here are - even the ones with confident negating attitude towards the Filipino films.

I'm sorry then, I didn't want it to be that way. I didn't want to appear as if I was lecturing you because I felt I knew what Arnel's response would be. Instead, I found your exchange with Arnel very interesting I thought I'd sound off with my take on his criticisms of Stateside tv shows being dubbed. And my post is actually a little more interrogative than it appears - it's kind of like a lengthy version of "Is this what you are saying??" which is why I ended with "Sakto ba?", that last interrogative sentence directed towards Arnel. Anyway, I know he will return and reveal what he has been thinking.

actually, the whole trailer IS the whole story...

it only takes about 5 minutes of that... the rest of the 1hour and 30mins of film is filled with fillers... more cliches, the more than occasional slapstick, the obligatory "sampalan", etc...

    that's the sad truth.
I'm uncertain as to whether it is the majority of films that have "fillers" or is it because the trailers are overly long and cut in a way when we are able to tell the entire storyline from it?

IMHO, trailers should be shortened and made into a "mosaic" form instead, introducing the nuances, personalities and maybe actors behind a film I don't think it's even necessary to give a hint of the plot.
