arang-arang kay gi apil tanan... changed the title of the thread to make it more "local"
SENATE President Manuel Villar said owners and officials of other power distribution companies in the country may be summoned to explain why they are collecting more than the actual consumption of their clients.
Villar said they have to look into the power industry as a whole to avoid speculations that the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is being singled out in the Senate investigation on high power rates.
“Yan ang aking posisyon na tingnan yong buong industriya wag lang Meralco,” said Villar who added that Meralco should not be singled out for allegedly passing on charges to their consumers.
He said he will suggest to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, chairwoman of the Senate committee on energy, to consider it. Villar explained that this is important so that Meralco will not have a reason to complain that they are being singled out.
The Senate is currently investigating the alleged high power rates of Meralco and the company’s reported passing on of systems losses to consumers.
SEE? it's not only Meralco as u think it is...Originally Posted by goryo13

we are now in the midst of a world food crisis and oil crisis, so NOW is the "urgent" time to tackle issues such as rice (as our staple food), fuel, and electricity, which forms our BASIC NEEDS, w/ the purpose of keeping prices stable or if possible lower.
now it will not be a surprise if the gov't will also tackle issues pertaining to health...and also shelter.
actually, there was already a Senator (i forgot the name) who concocted the idea to give free health insurance to poor children...
BULLSHIT kaayo ng systems loss charge. I used to pay 600-700 pesos of that a month. I don't even care how they derived or computed that particular charge because I know I will only get nonesense or you-can't-do-anything about that type of explanations.
All I know is that if duol ka ug squatter or slum area where pilferage and wire tapping is rampant and the probability that you belong to the same feeder or area, GOOD LUCK na lang nimo because the PAYING SUBSCRIBERS will be bearing the brunt in the guise of SYSTEMS LOSS charge.
Isn't that "FAIR"? Life is just sooo sweet.
BTW, as long as you deal with people, EVERYTHING is politics.

The ABS-CBN and the Lopezes has clearly stated their dissatisfaction to Gloria mao nga nibawos kini.
ambot lng kung maabot ni sa korte ky ni angal c winston sa questionable "proxy votes" nga nipabor nila Lopezes. even the SEC present there issued a Cease & Desist Order for the voting of the board. pero nagmagahi cla Lopez. ila gihapon gipadayon...it just shows how powerful are the Lopezes. way nahimo even the SEC.
well, winston, as the pres of GSIS (a major shareholder in meralco) said that if ever iyang constant pressuring doesn't bring the electric prices down to at least 10-20%, he will resign from GSIS. now that's something i would like to hear from a leader. he got conviction...

i'm just wondering.. why is it that i always have this eerie feeling that when the government says something like this: "we are just saying that the Palace is not interfering"
it's almost always that they are working behind the scene trying to maneuver everything on their favor...
Palace hands-off policy
Malacaang Wednesday declined to be drawn to the Meralco controversy, maintaining its hands-off policy.
Everyone will have his time before the bar of public opinion and court, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said at his weekly press briefing.
He expressed full support for Garciathings that are within the law we are not abandoning him.
Ermita dismissed suggestions that Garcia was a Malacaang attack dog in its attempt to muzzle the Lopez-owned ABS-CBN broadcasting network for its tough stand against corruption in the Arroyo administration.
He said this was just Garcias style in his bid to expose alleged irregularities by the Meralco management that had led to high power rates.
yeah right.
GSIS (or Winston) is not Malacanang. Just like u & me, he has his own mind and decision-making process that could not be dictated by anybody. i believe his actions are for the betterment of the electric consuming public and i totally support him on this, no matter how i dislike him in some other ways.
"supporting" is not the same as "muzzling"...the gov't "supports" Winston's move but not dipping their hands in the issue. so let's all get this in proper perspective. the more i sympathize w/ him as a fellow Cebuano during the annual stockholder meeting held last 5/27 ky mura cyag gitabangan ug gilampaso sa mga predominantly taga-Manila nga members & employees. murag nka menos ba ug taga probinsya.
besides, the Lopezes could just do away w/ that excuse..."attack dog" my arse.
what they (Meralco) should do is focus & talk on the "technical", not "political"...gi lihay ra na nla ang isyu w/c is the questionable rates & policies.
