Taxi operators' petition P50 flagdown rate to be filed today

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine National Taxi Operators Association is set to file a fare hike petition today, raising the taxi flagdown rate by P10, or from the current P40 to P50, and the succeeding kilometer rate by P1, or from the current P3.50 to P4.50.
Metro Cebu Taxi Operators Association President Richard Cabucos said that this was the decision reached by more than 209 taxi operators nationwide in their meeting held in Manila yesterday.
Cabucos said the petition is set to be filed today at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board head office so taxi operators in Cebu no longer have to file a petition at LTFRB regional office.
The taxi flagdown rate went up from P30 to P40 last year amidst the rising cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas for cars wherein at that time it is pegged at P30 to P32 per liter.
Cabucos said auto-LPG is currently at P45 per liter.
"Pwerte na gyung mahala sa auto-LPG. We have no other recourse but to file a petition for fare increase," Cabucos said.
When auto-LPG was first used five years ago, it was only pegged at P28 per liter but now the cost per liter is more or less the same to the price of diesel per liter.
Meanwhile, commuters in the Central Visayas were warned to prepare for an increase in the fare of Public Utility Jeepneys.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon said while there is no specific date yet, they are waiting for the petition from the transport groups.
“I think they still also have to consult with other counterparts to have a consolidated stand,” Cuizon said.
With regards to the Pantawid Pasada, the LTFRB-7 is also planning to send a proposal to the LTFRB main office to include multicab drivers.
“It was unfortunate that our multicab drivers were not included because there were no multicabs in Manila and the decision makers are from there,” Cuizon explained.
Cuizon added there are more than 3,000 multicab units registered in the entire region. – (FREEMAN)
