Can you connect this to a receiver through HDMI to play music and HD movies?

Re the specs, it says that it supports mkv but for HD only. So, it can't play HD movies in mkv container?

Yes it has an HDMI port so that you can connect it to a LCD / LED TV or Monitor. We have tested MKV files on it 1080P format.
