Ateneo caught UV off guard in the first quarter and never looked back. After being tied at 2-2, ADMU used a 15-0 run, sparked by Kirk Long and Chris Tiu, in a span of 6 minutes where UV failed to make a single basket out of 15 attempts. Chris Diputado had the highlight of the night after hitting a buzzer-beating shot 50 feet away. UV tried to charge back behind Von Lanete, Rico Berami, and Sylvester Tangconco, and with the help of ADMU's missed shots and turnovers, were able to get close at 28-32. However, in the third quarter, ADMU 6'7 slotman Rabah Al-Hussaini scored 15 points in the quarter alone and restored ADMU's double digit lead. Making matters worse, Ariel Mepaña got into foul trouble in the fourth quarter, Rico Berami fouled out, and Lanete was slapped with a double technical after a scuffle with Yuri Escueta. That spelled the game for the Green Lancers.
The crowd was overwhelming according to UV head coach Boy Cabahug. UV was never get used to such a crowd, when back at home here in Cebu, they're the crowd favorites. The full-support the fans gave to ADMU was a big factor for the win.
The good news though is that three of UV's players will be playing in the PBL soon. Rico Berami was picked by Toyota Balintawak, while Ariel Mepaña and Michael Luga were picked by Harbour Centre.
