one problem about our national team is that gamay ra kaayo sila ug time para mopractice together. international superpowers like argentina, spain, germany, italy and china have their own national pool players. maski nagduwa sila sa lain lain nga mga leagues, when naay international tournaments, sayun ra kaayo sila kay dugay na kaayo sila sa team. in short, familiar na kaayo sila sa dinuwaan sa ilang mga teammates. its going to be a very rough ride for the philippine team if they will try their best to make it to the olympics

hahaha... yeah, we are good in the game.. NBA style basketball.. but guys this is not about NBA style.. this is international rules basketball.. and we have to overhaul our game style if we want to make it in the olympics. we need shooters, passers, those who can orchestrate and execute the zone... Olympic style is about teamwork.. and teamwork comes from years of practicing and playing together.. they call it jelling..

anyway, do we got a chance.. certainly! but lets not be too overconfident on personality ( celebrity style) basketball.. we need the TEAM philippines to get the act together.. and this is not bout individual personality. this is about OLYMPICS, the greatest show on earth...

talent and skillwise, lig-on jud ang pinoy. we have good one-on-one players and players who could takeover games. sakto jud bro, NBA or commercialized type of basketball. when it comes to chemistry, murag dako kaayo ug kulang diha dapita. these players has been playing against each other for a long time but they seldom play together as a team. if they could combine their individual skills and teamplay, lisod kaayo pildihon ang team philippines

    RP cagers win tuneup match

CARSON CITY, California — The RP-San Miguel team rallied from 18-point down against the Bryon Russel-led ABA Hollywood Fame en route to winning its first tune-up game, 98-81, Monday noon at the Home Depot Center.

The Nationals missed their first four shots and quickly trailed by double digits as Jimmy Johnson, 6-foot-5 Billy Knight, 6-foot-6 Mo Spillers, 6-foot-9 Ron Mingo and the 6-foot-7 Russel, a former Lakers player, dominated inside and surprised the visitors with their deft outside shooting.

Fame further hammered the Filipinos with 6-foot-9 John Nortridge, who combined with Jamaal Kendricks in opening an 18-point lead early in the second quarter.

RP coach Chot Reyes quickly pulled his team together as Asi Taulava, Danny Seigle, Mick Pennisi, Renren Ritualo and Jayjay Helterbrand started connecting.

Ritualo and Pennisi then engineered a scorching rally that wiped out the deficit as Fame went into the locker room holding a 51-50 edge.

The second half was RP-San Miguel all the way, with Pennisi and Dondon Hontiveros delivering long-distance bombs and Helterbrand shredding the Fame defense in setting up Tony dela Cruz at the perimeter.

The Americans trailed by 10 at the start of the fourth quarter and went into a full-court press which the nationals easily broke down with superb ball-handling.

A rematch is set Tuesday with Russel, best remembered as the Utah Jazz defender faked out of position by Michael Jordan, then still with the Chicago Bulls, for that picture-perfect winning jumper, vowing revenge, as our superior ballhandling rendered their full court press useless.

"More impressive than our shooting, conditioning, and quickness was the fact that we did not give up even when we were down by 18 early," said Reyes.

"We struggled early, but the players found a way to overcome the soreness and fatigue they felt from the morning’s workouts" Reyes added the Nationals "communicated very effectively, and their genuine concern for each other was inspiring. Over-all, I am quite satisfied with this, our first game ever as a unit."

i was not comparing the NBA players to our very own national team. the point is that the gameplay sa philippine team. international competition is more of basketball fundamentals and teamwork. philippine basketball is a commercialized type of basketball, aka NBA type of basketball, which actually doesnt work internationally. size and skillwise, wa jud ta compared to other basketball superpowers, at least for now. the goal right now is to make it to the olympics. take it one at a time lang
