Did you know that cough capsules can cause hemorrhage (bleeding of the brain)? Well yes, it’s true! Beware of the products that are cheap and well funded marketing. It’s a cheap way of getting dead sooner.
The problem with Cough Capsules are they contain chemical composition that is called phenylpropanolamine or PPA. It can cause hemorrhagic stroke mostly to women but men maybe also at risk. In the US, products that contains PPA has been banned already since 2000. But in Philippines, these products are still being sold to drug stores nationwide. What the heck, how did Philippine FDA approved it?
Short list of products that CONTAINS PPA:
* Decolgen
* Bioflu
* Desotap
* Neozep
* Sinutab
* Tuseran
Here are the following capsules that are poorly advertised product but are safe capsules and DOESN’T CONTAIN PPA.
* Bisolvon
* Loviscol
* Rubitussin
For more info about PPA, here’s an article from FDA of US which was published since Nov. 2000
