Default Re: NAS (Network Attached Storage)

I just need a 2 or 4 bay NAS, with gigabit network and 2 USB ports for external storage devices.
It must support sata, and ntfs file system.
I do not need it to store documents, but to access video files from various location in my house (be it living room, home theater room etc.). I currently use another PC for that, connected to the lan, I just dont want to have the PC on 24h, so a nas would do the job just fine. But > 20k for a NAS makes just no sense for my purpose.

I think the qnap is available for 10k in tpc. Once you try it out youwill not want to look for anything else. This is what we use for everything....access media for wd tv live, apple tv, has a bittorrent download manager, has an iTunes server and android and iPhone apps for it,backup server, I SCSI initiator, web server, and for me the most useful is the front USB where you can plug in your sd card with a USB adapter and copy files from the card (useful for digicam pics) by just pressing the front button.

I have had my synology for 2 yrs now and have scheduled it to turn on and off at certain times. It is set to raid1 which has proven quite useful when I lost one drive.

Believe me you will not regret getting one. They have an online demo at their respective sites

Yes, I heard now a lot of good things about the qnap. I might call the local distributor for the ts-219p+, or the ts-419p+, which should be fine for my purpose.

Update: Just had them reserve the one they had on stock and will pickup later. I got the TS-219P+.

Got the unit. Installed 2x2TB HDD's, all works fine. Already started copying my movies to the drives (with about 75mb/s, which is fine for the gigabit lan I think).
