There is a news on the net that the companies that will be given the stimulus package will not be allowed to hire H1B applicants. Affected mi ani and those who are planning to apply work in the US.

This has been an old issue with the Americans not only that this recent economic crisis but clearly they lack of competence in the area such as Medical (eg Doctors), IT (Software Engineers) and scientist. The Americans are lazy to learn and live with it that's why they (private sectors) hire consultants or immigrant with special skill. Dept of Labor always make sure that before a potential employer will find someone (who is not an American obviously) will consider all areas before hiring with the skill set as an H1B.

The American are very good in "Communication" literally that involves sales or marketing. They have a superb talent for that BUT when in comes to the "technical" problems they just want to wash their hands and be the manager instead of doing it - that's their attitude.

Now, the "immigration" (eg. issuing H1B, or choosing a candidate versus a citizen) will be "stricter" and you will see it now - a lot of citizen (Americans) are being lay off - the same as the H1B workers or the immigrant and they are competing right now.

The good thing is that - the US companies has the opportunity to clean up the "old" workers and consider them are "layoff" because of the current economic crisis - but from my perceptive employers are taking the opportunity to clean the "old" grass root.

Now, these US companies will be hiring back - of course new skills set and high standard - old folks cannot compete on this arena even if they will consider to go back and learn new stuff.

For me, this is still an opportunity because there will be new jobs creation in the near future.

Every time the US is in a recession, there is always a public outcry about immigration. It comes with the territory.

I agree w/ vern, America has its own problems and kung unsa ila steps to alleviate that (incl. immigration changes) then wala na tay mahimo ana. Whether we like it or not.

If they found you useful and peaceful enough, then I think you do have a good chance to become an immigrant.
They need support to maintain that milk and honey status.

America will be fine.. I do think reforms are needed regarding immigration, but I think Trump's "radical" changes will do more harm than good. Almost every election year they have doom and gloom forecast about the U.S.--but that's part of the news cycle to discredit one party or the other. This year is especially hilarious with the republicans saying the economy is contracting under Obama, when it really isn't.
