Editorials: Losers, winners in Sugbuak war

The push to split the island of Cebu into four smaller provinces through the so-called Sugbuak bills is again catching people’s attention, thanks to the new round of maneuvering by the pros and the antis in Congress.

While there are views that the measures hatched by Reps. Clavel Asas-Martinez, Antonio Yapha and Simeon Kintanar are already doomed considering the processes these bills still have to go through and the lack of time, the proponents are undeterred.

They are pouncing on every available advantage, like prodding an obviously sympathetic House committee chairman to act on the measures when the antis like Reps. Antonio Cuenco, Raul del Mar and Eduardo Gullas were distracted by other concerns.

The result is that opponents of the Sugbuak bills have been reduced in the past few days to merely reacting to the proponents’ offensives, which gives the wrong impression that the lobby for the measures is succeeding.

Gwen challenges PB members: Take a stand on Sugbuak now

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is calling on members of the Provincial Board (PB) to make up their minds on the issue of creating three more Cebu provinces and stop being fence-sitters.

This is after the board deferred approval of the resolution that PB Member Victor Maambong sponsored to express “strong support” for the signature campaign that the Capitol initiated to get the sentiment of the public.

“Dili ta mahimo nga kanunay na lang ta mamangka sa dalawang ilog and to forever stay in the gray. They said the hottest place in hell is reserved for those who just sit in the fence and do nothing. I hope they bring their air conditioners with them if they go to the hottest place in hell,” she said in a press conference.

Tell me of a high-ranking government official who's not corrupt! Kung naa, aw okay saludo ko. Pero am gonna say this sa kalagot... DELIKADESA na lang nang ilang public service kuno. Mura agi nalang ug respetar ba, compromise. BUT THE REAL DEAL is... politicians ain't public servants... gusto lang sila madatu ug gusto ug gahum. Of course they need to sell themselves nga this and that, public servant, gusto ko mo serve sa katawhan for a greater reward.

So basically kung gusto ka madatu... PAGTUKOD UG SIMBAHAN... or PAMUGAS DAAN WHILE BATA PA KA para magamhanan ka sa tong gobyerno. EVERY MOVE always thinks of STAYIN IN POWER, maka apekto ba ni sa SUNOD TERM and maka BENEFIT ba pud sila money wise. AW OF COURSE NAMAN if you can earn millions aw siguraduon gyud nimo nga PERFECT imong feasibility di ba, anha na mogawas ang KA BRAYT.

PERTI PUNG DAKUANG NEGOSYO and here we are hoping that the people we voted will help us. Politicians are nothing more than businessmen who invests what? Hmm well... ILAD.

Basta election hala pamugas diri pamugas didto... yay makadaug gyud ko ani... then ig lingkod na unsa may ilang buhat? A true public servant won't mind doing very many things, labi na nga able siya mo exercise sa yang love for serving people. PERO yaw ninyo kalimti nga these politicians are there, NAGPABUTAR not because of this love for public service.

And.. mo na.. just another one of their feasibility studies to build another new business to add to their empire. As to how Cebuanos would react to this? It's all up to us. We know nga mga corrupt sila pero butar man gihapon ta.

I dream of one day, naay motukod ug political party nga pulos mga aktibista ba. Kanang tinuod gyud nga public service ilang gusto. At least na tay choice to vote for them kaysa pulos trapo. Aw naa diay manglansar nga mga tinuod nga public servants pero tungod la silay kwarta, lay power, mapildi gyud sa na establish na nga apelyido sa ilang lugar. But if we really think of it... napay hope.

But, the only way we become catalysts of change is kita mismong mga mambubutar. STAND GYUD on our ground, di ta modawat P500 P1000, tabunan atong dunggan para di ta makadungog sa mga matam-is nga mga pulong sa kandidato. Be critical about what politicians tell us... like aning i-split ang Cebu. NAA gyud nay ginansya and kinsa lay alkanse magpailad pud ta.

Now, akong nahibal-an or na sense, basta ingon ana nga mga provinces... ang klaro gihapon nga progressive kay ang Del Norte... look at Mindanao, equal ba diay ang progress sa mga del sur kaysa sa del norte so what's the point?

It will cause more division not just geographically but spiritually. Our Cebu spirit. Aw given naman na atong mga politicians pero di lang nato kalimtan nga united gyud gihapon ang mga Cebuanos. Known baya ang Cebu nga neutral, walay discrimination, patas tanan. Masulbad man nang progress sa luyo sa Cebu ba and ya that's right... we also need a powerful and dedicated governor and local officials too.

There might be some advantages (pero some ra, if we really think about it pareha ra gihapon) kung ma divide into 4 different provinces... pero ang disadvantage, and one thing that I hate nga mawala... Ang Cebuano spirit. Kay ug nanay other provinces like "del sur" ang mga Cebuano moana naman tubag kung taga asa sila "taga del sur ko bai" there. Di na moingon taga Bogo ko or taga Daan Bantayan. Basin moabot pud ang panahon nga to determine asa nga part sa Cebu kay ang name na sa provinces ang isulti. Naa gyuy division innately. While kung bisan asa sa whole Cebu kay Cebu... nindot kaayo paminawon.

Bisan taga Bogo ka or taga Daan Bantayan ka, taga luyo ba, taga CEBU GYUD GIHAPON TANG TANAN, ONE AND UNITED CEBU. Proud baya ta nga Cebuano ta. Di nato huwaton nga moingon ta "proud ko kay taga Cebu Occidental ko"... hmmm And let me add this, mga students mag-abot sa eskwelahan, wala puy categorization nga taga there and there, WE"RE ALL CEBUANOS. Of course ug maanad ka ig travel nimo moana you're leaving Cebu Occidental... ma instill gyud pud sa mo mind nga... ang Cebu dili na one united province. Probably na na pud nang kompetensyaanay, regionalistic behaviours. Maka apekto gyud sa Cebu.

I think i got paranoid na pero really i truly don't want to ever feel that nga dili na ta one CEBU nanay sumpay ba. Progress? We just need to vote for people who truly are there to serve the people mao ra. And, ato pung governor, kinsa na siya wa ko kaila he/she should find ways to help other provinces. Di ba si Lito mo man nay gibuhat sa una?
