Hello bro, good question. It actually depends on what you intend to shoot. Im also a newbie.
An 18-200mm lens seems to be a good walk-around lens that is if you don't mind sacrificing a little image quality. A two lens combo would be better if you want this range.
For the shorter focal length range here are my choices:
1. Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 DC Macro OS
2. Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di II
3. The good old Canon 18-55mm IS kit lens
For the longer focal length range:
1. A 70-200mm lens from canon, tamron or sigma that would fit your budget
2. Canon 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS (A cheaper yet good alternative of the more expensive L lenses)
Also don't forget the Nifty Fifty (Canon 50mm f1.8 prime lens) for low-light and portrait photography.
The list goes on and on as you mature in this hobby and you might find what you really want to specialize as you go along (portraits, landscapes, sports, macro, etc..). But for now as a start this is what I can recommend.
Hope this helps. Enjoy!
