Part III was pretty much just all hanky panky. Not that there's anything wrong with that.![]()
I agree ... Saw re-runs here in San Diego , quite interesting to see a big group put good effort in telling stories of marines that held Guadalcanal , I like the approach of getting content from good books and seeing it in HD is icing on cake. Amazing to see the landing , heading into jungle, soldiers making do with what they have, adapting, laughing about it, shocked ....
Although inspight of the different twist to this 10 part series , don't know if its just me but kinda miss Captain Winters ..... at times I think what he would've done placed in that situation.
Story is getting better though... as we haven't seen sledge yet![]()
Master Yoda's Quote “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
^^I just saw the first 3 eps. and you are right, I also missed Major Winters (that guy's just unbelievable) so i watched BOB again, all 10 episodes straight, which summed up my 'entire' easter sunday hehe. for me The Pacific didn't have that impact yet on me the same way BOB did. somehow, there is that eerie and suspense feeling for me when it comes to WWII+Europe+Hitler+Nazis+Concentration Camps. If i was there, id be more afraid facing 'Krauts' than 'Japs' (i dont mean any offense, just quoting the same terms in the series) but its still too early, looking forward to the next episodes. and BTW, episode 4 is coming out on the inter-webs today![]()

The Peleliu landings should be a lot more exciting than Guadalcanal. That's where the Marines got chopped up on the beaches and got their collective noses bloodied in the actions that followed. If there's anyone closest to Dick Winters in the story, it's probably Manila John Basilone, who got a Medal of Honor for the action depicted in Part Two. But as far as personality is concerned, they're very different.
Speaking of Dick Winters, there's been a move by several groups to have Winters awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at Brecourt Manor. The assault on the guns wreaking havoc on the Normandy beaches is studied today at the USMA in West Point as a textbook example of an assault on a fixed position. Winters was put in for a Medal of Honor but because of some silly quota system that limited the number of medals per division, he was awarded a DSC instead.
The move hasn't met with success. Dick Winters himself isn't interested in getting the MOH either, maintaining that the real heroes are the ones who died in the battle. Someone I talked to (a WW2 afficionado who is also a Normandy tour guide and re-enactor) who actually knows Winters says he is in declining health, in the firm grip of Parkinson's Disease, and may not be around for much longer.
