Though I feel sorry for Ces, I think it was irresponsible of ABS CBN to send her there, knowing she is a prominent journalist. It doubled the risk of her being abducted because she is a well-known figure. If I was in her shoes, I would not risk my crew's life and my own because I know that the risk is high.

Just my thoughts. Having lived in Marawi City for most of my life, I've experienced being present during the release of kidnap victims from time to time. They sometimes arrived via Huey helicopters at the Mindanao State University oval/grandstand, from the "rescue point". And most of the stories you hear from the kidnap victims aren't as violent and as sadistic as some of you depict here. It all depends on the kidnappers--granted most if not all of them want money (ransom), but some of them have certain beliefs and ideologies too.

I recall the kidnapping of Fr. Michel de Gigord, a French priest sometime in the mid-80's. In his second kidnapping (yes, 2nd), his niece Benedicte was with him (visiting) and she too was abducted. After their eventual release, Fr. de Gigord said that the kidnappers were very polite and well-mannered, and even assured him that if anyone even touched his niece, they would shoot the person on sight (she was very pretty). Later on, local authorities and military sources would say that the kidnapping was politically motivated, and sometimes the politics of the incident is even more important than the ransom--the ransom sometimes can hide the true reason for such incidents, because people are almost always blinded by money.

I do agree with this. Some co-teachers of my mom back in MSU got abducted, and when they returned, they said that the kidnappers were indeed polite. No one even touched them, and they were unscathed when they returned.

Depende sad siguro sa mga kidnappers kung kinsang mga grupoha. Some would kidnap other people just to get attention and they want their message to get across without harming their victims.

But in the case of the ASG, they are already proven to be ruthless and doesn't follow any rules. Afterall they are terrorists.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON CES DRILON:



ABS-CBN News journalists Ces Drilon, Jimmy Encarnacion, and Angelo Valderama have been kidnapped for ransom.

ABS-CBN News is doing everything it can to help the families of its kidnapped journalists through this harrowing ordeal.

However, ABS-CBN News will abide by its policy not to pay ransom because this would embolden kidnap for ransom groups to abduct other journalists, putting more lives at risk.

We ask the nation for your prayers and request our colleagues in media to join ABS-CBN News in condemning this unconscionable attack against journalists.

We thank everyone for the outpouring of support we have received in this most difficult time.
