Why is it illegal in the Philippines? I don't know. But I believe the Philippine government adopted the United States' Marijuana Law. Marijuana was officially illegalized by the Federal government on August 2, 1937 with the support from an a**hole named Harry Anslinger. According to his magazine called "Gore Files" he said,

There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music: jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.
WTF! He did mentioned Filipinos. As a bisaya, I'm offended by this!

Fact: Marijuana became an dispensable part of music scene especially during the "Jazz" era (early 1900's). *see, Louis Armstrong.

By the way, it feels really AWESOME when you're listening to jazz music while under the influence. If you need suggestion what kind of music to listen to when you're high, jazz is a good one. Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ray Charles and etc. DAYYYUM!

    ANYWAYS! Back to the topic.

    Also Anslinger said,

Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.
Really? How could someone be motivated to do violent acts when their body is relaxed, feeling happy, and craving for food? Why the congress believed Anslinger's statements, he's not even a scientist nor a doctor. He's a politician for Christ sake. And... Marijuana is not a drug. It's a cannabis/plant.

There comes another guy named William Randolph Hearst, owner of huge chain of newspapers in the United States. He supports Anslinger's statements. Why? Because he hates Mexicans especially Pancho Villa -- the Mexican revolutionary leader, not the Filipino boxer (but either way he hates non-whites ) -- because he lost 800,000 acres of timberland to him. That's why he hates Mexicans. By the way, Hearst invested a huge money on timberland to support his newspaper business.

Fact: Mexicans were the large Marijuana dealers in the United States during the 1900's. This became a "passport" for them to enter the United States. Illegal immigration skyrocketed!

Yeah, this is why Marijuana became illegal!

    OTHER THOUGHTS:

    > An Israeli researcher claimed that Moses was under the influence of cannabis. He found some existing cannabis on Mt. Sinai, so the "burning bush" was the "burning marijuana". Therefore, Moses was in the state of paranoia after the burning bush event when he saw people celebrating a Sinulog-like festival and praying to the golden calf.

    > There's no current data saying how many people died in Marijuana. No one died of Marijuana.

    > THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) is used in several medical applications before a patient goes for chemotherapy. This is normally done through pills though.

    > God made marijuana. Man made alcohol. But in god, we trust!

Ignorante ka bay! Taga bukid tingali ni ay. What do you mean, "wala nila gi consider sa maturity sa atong society"? Well, regardless they smoke it for recreational purposes, that doesn't mean they're immature, stupid, or bad person. I do smoke marijuana but that doesn't makes me an immature person. In fact, I do well most of my classes.

Time will come, the Philippine government will legalize marijuana for good (which I don't like because the price per gram will be more expensive + Tax). Way back during the "Prohibition" period, there was a lot of people was persecuted for possession of alcohol/beer, and now, half of the world's population are enjoying the beverage without getting in trouble with the law!

    Time will come, my friend.
